RICA

Thanks for the help via e-mail Snake.
My only other concern is, after the official deadline for RICA(next year sometime), what happens to consumers who purchase contracts/sim cards/starter packs after the RICA registration period???

My point is that RICA shouldn't have a "deadline" as such, and should be ongoing, or am I missing something here :)

I got your mail, will need to Rica that contract number.
As a side word please guys dont send me proof of residence as a P O Box, nobody lives in a postbox apart from the underpants gnomes;):D

Ok, makes sense now, thanks for the speedy replies...;)

Ever since I got Ricad, I get spammed at all hours.

I live in a combi-camper, generate my own electricity using solar panels, get water from the nearest public tap... I thus have no bills to prove where I live! Does that mean I am not allowed to own a cellphone?

Nah, you can just give the address of your closest church or shopping centre.

I honestly cant answer that man, have a word with the glorious government thats in place- honestly, and i mean search your heart here- honestly think we wanna do this?

You can Rica using your Church's address.

You may also use the address of a school or retail store where you recieve your post from- in that case you have to obtain an affidavit stating that is where you recive the post along with a stamped letterhead from the establishment stating that this is the case.

Ok, I've got another Q, let's use the following example:

1. A client takes out a phone contract(irrespective of network)
2. Registers for Rica
3. From my understanding, any sim card provided on contract "remains" sole ownership of that individual Service Provider, and upon termination/cancellation of this contract, the number would be removed from the network/blocked from further use, until another client is assigned that specific number.
4.Keeping in mind, your details are still Rica'd to that contract number.

My question is, is there going to be/currently a process from removing that sim card/cell number from your name, or what happens when your contract is over and that number doesn't belong to you anymore?

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to keep the enquiry simple

On contract the number is removed from your profile once terminated- an exit interview if you will. On prepaid its tricky- i wouldnt know so il ask around....

Closest to when I RICA? Maybe I should drive to Century City and use their own address?

I'm an atheist! :)

Quite.

What is the point of the whole exercise when three quarters of the population are not able to provide bona fide proof of residence anyway. Frankly my own situation is not really that straightforward, either.

The whole thing is unworkable and the fact that the requirement for registration has been loosened to the point of the information tendered being entirely untrustworthy means that it serves absolutely no useful purpose at all.

Not that it ever did. The Crims will have no problem getting RICAd SIM cards.

According to the link at the top I'm not RICA'd.
I've got a contract with MTN where they send me my monthly statements. So they have my address, and ID and phone number - why don't they just auto RICA me?

Can I use the MTN statement as proof of address? :)
