Rooftop solar registration Eskom

Aerial imagery has been used for a very long time by the Surveyor General and Deeds Office, for various purposes, one of them being rates and taxes. So solar panel identification can be easily done, if not already in place. They outsource it, and from what I can remember, it's satellite, aircraft and even drone in some instances.

Pretty much the same data that Google Maps uses, below 2 random houses in my area:

Google maps is a bit behind though, but yeah that would be the CoJ way. We've used satellite to find your panels

I prefer them, cheaper than CoCt, previously ess restrictive than Coct.

Cons, no communication when there are problems, but since I have solar, i just continue with my life.
Seems like it so guess you score there

So the worst Eskom can do, is to disconnect me from their grid. Which is fair. Since I am not going to give in to their inane demands.

I rather reorganise my finances and go 90% plus offgrid with genny as backup.

In fact we can already make be at 90%, if my wife curtails certain habits of her, where she uses large appliances when the sun does not shine.
Disconnect you but still charge you?

I am prepaid, so I will just stop buying units.

This is in the future. When and if Eskom ever demand registration, I will politely tell them that should rather disconnect me from their grid.
I mean CP can try here, but that requires them to actually do checks

Perhaps worth a little mention

Are you connected to eskom directly? If you are they are trying to force you to register your solar with them. You will then be moved to the Home Flex package and receive a bidirectional meter for free. They are driving this hard and still offer the quotation fees and meter fees for free. I personally see this landing up in the constitutional court soon. Once you accept the Home flex package your Peak time rate will move from R3.20 to R6.8. Peak hours also gets extended by two hours per day at night time. No buying or selling, only kwh out vs kwh in, but the shortfall you will have to buy back at an elevated rate.

Your neighbour next door without solar, remains on the cheaper rate.

You can apply and register your system at your local Eskom office.

Please bold the Eskom parts cause some on here still have difficulty understanding the differences between Eskom direct and municipality feeds.

I just came across the below news article. Has anyone here on Eskom registered their rooftop solar, had a meter from Eskom installed and had to pay inspection cost for compliance? If so please share what it cost and procedure please.

If you don’t want to feed into the grid then I would ignore and just get CoC for insurance.
