Router Battery Backup

@xrapidx Hey, where you able to get confirmation of this? My router power supply says it needs 1.5A/12v and the ONT 1.0A/12v.

I'm keen to get one but worried my router won't work...
No - I followed up with Ellies this morning, they just responded that they're waiting for reply from the supplier.

Ok, thanks dude. Please let us know if/when they get back to you! :)
What ONT / router do you have?

I have the standard Afrihost-supplied D-Link 825 and the Vumatel Huawei ONT connected to the Ellies Cube for a couple of weeks now. Worked seamlessly during the recent power cuts and haven't noticed any negative impacts on performance.

The ONT is a Vumatel Raycore and the router is a TP-Link Archer C20 AC750.

Are those the specs on the power supply "bricks"? If so that is the maximum the brick will supply - the devices connected to it will draw less.

e.g.
My OpenServe ONT is a Hauwei HG8248h and although the power supply is rated 12V @ 2A (24W) the ONT draws a maximum of 7.8W. That's less than 1/3 of what the power supply is capable of.

I also have the Archer C20 AC750 and it's power requirements are miniscule. The power brick only puts out 5.4W (9V @ 0.6A) so the router will be using less than that.

Oh brilliant, thank you very much. This is exactly the feedback I needed!

Yeah, those are what's written on the power supplies themselves.

Really appreciate your help

The question that is still outstanding is the max output of that Ellies / SunSynk thing. I can't for a moment believe the data sheet is correct at 12W, but am hesitant to recommend it until we have clarity

They responded to me on facebook that its 12w.... but still waiting for confirmation from the supplier. (I don't think its going to happen)

I've tried to find this device on SunSynk's various pages but I can't find it. Was hoping the official manufacturer specs would help.

If there's a quick and easy way to measure the output of the Cube, happy to oblige with some guidance from yourselves.

Alternatively (if you're in JHB), you are welcome to connect your devices to the Cube and see if it powers on. ONT should be fine but seems that the router is uncertain.

Both of my power adaptors have an output of 12v / 1amp.

Damn with loadshedding kicking in I tried to use my Ratel 860p to power the ONT and router.
But they only supply one female-to-female splitter DC cable. I bought another male-to-female and tried to rewire it. But it doesn't fit the connection.

Anyone know where to get the right fit of female dc connections that can plug into both the ratel and ONTs / routers, so I can get a actually power both devices simultaneously as needed?

Geewiz, communica, etc is your best bet.

Thanks @Xiphan
I'm useless with this stuff, particularly knowing specific components from websites.
But if I've already taken this https://www.communica.co.za/products/cctv-adpt-4x-mp121ld, which I assume is a 2.5mm to 4 x 2.1mm?

and turned it into 2 x individual 2.1mm to 2.1mm cables.

Then I assume all I need to do is buy
4 x 2.1mm to 2.5mm adaptors and I should have all combinations covered?

Is my logic correct?

And if so, is https://www.mantech.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?Item=15M2064 the kind of thing I should be looking for?

If it is, anyone advise the nearest place (I stay in Sandton) that should stock these?

Just to make sure I understand you correctly have you cut the four 2.1mm cables off that splitter and joined them together to make a pair of cables with 2.1mm jacks on either end? And are you looking to convert these 2.1mm jacks to 2.5mm because the Ratel, ONT and your router all use 2.5mm jacks?
To an extent. I have re-cut the cables as you understand.

The Ratel uses 2.5mm.
I think the router uses 2.1mm and the ONT 2.5mm but just want to have the options covered.

Any recommendations for a single unit to power both a Mikrotik hAP AC2 (24v) and Frogfoot ONT (12v?)?

@AfriNatic @Afrihost-Gian Please look into the feasibility of supplying these mini ups devices to your customers.

You will probably negotiate a better rate.
Standardise cables with supplied router etc.

Afrihost is basically the same price vs other ISPs on Frogfoot.

Supply one of these UPS devices for free and I'm willing to stay with you for a year.

If that isn't possible look at offering it to your customers at a reasonable price.

Please don't go with the rental model offered by Vox. That is terrible and will just annoy your customers.

Thanks

Hi,

We do sell a UPS. It's quite a strong UPS that also supports POE to use with your wifi mesh system.
