Router Battery Backup

I went with a bit of a happy medium (for me anyway)
Backup power at ground level in a spare plug, lead running up conduited to ceiling device
Nothing like that would be possible here, really shitty designed house for modifications. I had to come up with some really innovative ways to get the networking / cameras done without running cables on the interior walls.

The battery in the roof will be temporary anyway, probably till next summer - when I get another AP for the office.

I took my 3.2 Sherlo to their factory in Northriding yesterday and they performed a board-swap due to a faulty relay; apparently they offer 2-year warranties on these, not 6-months like indicated on sites like Takealot.

I left it without a DC-out load to charge overnight and then connected my ONT & Router to it this morning, and switched off the AC supply.

It's been running for the past 3 hours on the 7.2A battery and the indicator light just turned red, indicating that the battery has dipped below 11.5v

You have a few options:

A Ratel from Communica or an UltraLAN from DBG.

I'm with Frogfoot and I have the UltraLAN and it has no problem powering the Calix ONT that Frogfoot uses and the Huawei WS5200 router that Afrihost provides. I even have a Yealink VoIP base station running off it but for that I had to use a buck converter to convert one of the outputs to 5V.

You can see my post here where I summed up the pros and cons between the two.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I tried to order the Ratel 860P from Communica, but despite indicating it was "In Stock" they've just come back to me stating they don't have it in stock and want to refund me.

No apologies, no indication of when stock might be available and no attempt to offer me anything else. Just "give us your bank details". First and last time I use those jokers. :cautious:

You're unhappy that they want to refund you as they are out of stock?

No I was unhappy that their website indicated that it was "In-stock" when I ordered and that after 24hours I got a one-liner response stating there is in fact no stock and they need to refund.

I would have expected them to at least apologise for the confusion caused by their website reflecting incorrectly, give me an indication of whether they would be getting more stock and the timeline thereof. Additionally if they wanted to make a sale they could have offered me alternatives, but that's their own prerogative.

Having said that I replied to them stating that I was a bit miffed about the above and they have just come back to me to indicate they managed to secure some via backorder and mine will be shipped today. So kudos to them in changing my experience around.

Communica are usually great, happy you got sorted.

Not sure if it's standard practice, but they overnighted the order to me. Received a few min ago.

Colour me impressed :)
Everyone who orders from them says it gets delivered in record time.
I am lucky enough to work down the road from them so I just went there during lunch.

1 year old Kstar UPS used to give 8 hours, now with all the loadshedding recently is down to just short of two hours, and that just a router and Vuma box.

Guess it's time for a new one...

Just get a small DC UPS. Cheaper, and will probably also give ~8 hours if you get at least 8800mah and you do not have a monster of a router.

Hi, has anyone tried using a CCTV power supply to power their routers, ont , deco modules, and switches
as below.
would be easier to connect all devices to one PSU and run cables from there.

The inverter is probably fine. I'm sure it's just the lead acid batteries, which are not that expensive to replace.

Why when you can use a Ratel / UltraLan?

Has anyone seen a 12v DC power supply with multiple output options? Essentially a ratel / UltraLan but without the battery.

Will the Ratel 860 work with an Asus RT-AC86U which needs 19v ?
