Router Battery Backup

Excellent - that will do but why is the iphone a no-no???? I also saw this one: https://www.pishop.co.za/store/powe...-5v-converter-dc-dc-3a-step-down-power-module

That one also seems fine, or even better than what I linked. Cannot comment on the not for use on iPhone, iPod and Samsung Galaxy S4 - that is odd. Did a quick search on the interwebs and could not find anything odd. The iphone/ipods etc use 5.1V afaik, but this has never been an issue for me. Have charged plenty of iphones on my 5v usb charger(s).

The Ratel 460p looked ideal until I found out that my Ubiquiti AC Pro access point uses passive 48V POE.

The Ratel units are very well priced - one can't purchase and build an equivalent system cheaper. The 18650 batteries alone cost nearly as much as the complete units.

It was for remotes which arm/disarm/panic button the existing alarm from the previous owner... like 7 years ago.
I asked because I want to remotify ( :) ) my alarm. The wife is complaining about first having to go into the house to disarm the alarm before she can open the garage door to pull the car in. I have the exact same receiver that you have there in the pic lying somewhere in my garage. The last time I had it connected to my gate and it would open the thing at random times. I've ruled out that it might be a case of someone else's remote being on the same frequency as I had it changed numerous times

If I find out how to sync the remotes to the receiver again I'll let you know. I think I figured it out via Google previously. Thought you'd tell me how insecure it is. :)

It did work - I had an LED above my garage door to check the state.

But I bypassed my in-garage IR sensor instead... there's a jumper for that on/in the sensor itself.

You could add an entry delay to the garage.

Wat
No
802.3af PoE 802.3at PoE+
Active PoE

Ah so 24V PoE is "passive"
I need 802.3af which is 48V.
Looks like I'll need a DC-DC step-up circuit to bump 12V up to 48V and feed that into a 802.3af PoE injector like the TP-Link TL-POE150S.
Can't seem to find any 12V to 802.3af PoE injectors.

I have the same problem. Closest I could find is from Tycon Systems but it is pricey (some models are on Amazon).

Here you go. But at R2,500 I might as well replace my UPS and/or camera.

Or this:

Ouch! $72 (R1029) excluding shipping and import duties.

I'll get a DC-DC step-up converter from eBay for R60 (free shipping) and feed a TP Link TL-POE150S PoE injector (802.3af compliant + Gigabit ethernet).
Total = R369

BotShop also has a suitable DC-DC step up converter but it's a bit of an overkill if one only needs 10 or 15W of PoE power. https://www.botshop.co.za/product/600w-step-up-boost-power-module/
