Router Battery Backup

My Gizzu 60W 56Wh 17600mAh Mini POE DC UPS, seems to to cooked.

Bought in 2023/03/04, seems to only last 1 hour now with 2x 12v @1.5A devices.

I'm sure these are 18650 lithium based, how can they be dead already?

From new it did last 4 hours precisely, long 4+ hour outages did drain them to 0% maybe 10 times since purchase date. Anyone have the same issue?

This.

Ai, but I used to have a vape with 18650's in them they always went flat and i never saw any noticeable degradation.

Anyway, looking for a replacement of this Mini UPS, would prefer one that uses an actual lithium pack, not 18650's as there are a lot of kak cells out there.

12000mAh minimum.

This seems to have LiFePo4 battery:

Seems it only has 1x12V port.

Im looking at this.

LiFePO4 apparently.

bought lithium backup pump for the fish tank...drained to zero once...batteries wasted...want to open and check what kind of lithium batteries they contain...rather disappointed

Probably nmc chemistry. Look for a replacement with lfp cells.

I have a bunch of these things all still plugged in.
Now that loadshedding is gone for now I guess I should just leave them plugged in to protect the devices from Eskom? Although I am not sure they operate as true line interactive UPS - they just switch fast when power drops.

Well proper vape 18650 batteries is normally good quality and cost a lot more than what is probably in these mini ups's.
I also don't think a vape mod run the batteries to 0%

If they are 18650 cells the battery pack has probably become unbalanced and one cell is preventing the pack from fully charging up. The battery packs are normally just covered in shrink wrap and it’s pretty easy to open them and charge each cell individually with jumper cables.

But you can get lfp 18650 cells.

My old Geewiz from 2019 works as a UPS, never misses a beat when power goes off, the others I've tried have quick switch which effects routers :-( so have moved those around or returned them.

It doesn't really make sense to use the AC terminology because these DC mini UPSes do not have inverters. They just send the DC input to the battery and then to one or more buck converters.

The UPS I built for myself is based around a single ORing diode with basically zero switching time. I would be surprised if the commercial ones are any more complicated than that.

I would just replace the cells with better ones. The vast majority of mini UPSes are going to be using total junk for batteries whether they're 18650 cells, prismatics, NMC, LFP, whatever. They'll be the rejects that get diverted from higher value uses. Only by buying the battery separately can you be a bit more assured of the quality.

This too:

So I decided to check how well my 2 year old NETOGY UPS100 performs since we had 2 outages in the past 24 hours. I see can carry my CCTV DVR (which uses a lot of power, more than my ONT and router and switch) for 2 hours (by looking at when the outage started and footage recording dying), and it's been drained dead quite a numbers of times due to outages.
