Router Battery Backup

@x7razor please confirm the following with the Elecstor 24000mAh.

When the battery dies and A/C power is restored does the unit power itself on to output DC?

Because this takealot comment doesnt make sense.
I will have to let it drain to test that for you, since mine never went dead the only time it was dead is when i removed the battery lol

Ok I tested my spare unit since it was still in the box so charge was at minimum. My unit would have taken too long discharge since it has double the capacity. When it shuts down it automatically started up again when you switch on the power.

A lithium doesn't die with going to zero
Like a lead acid does

If t is dead then the charging system doesn't have a way to get the BMS out of protection mode

Putting a charger on the cells for n minute or so bypassing the BMS often gets the voltage to lift to get it out of protection mode and then they normally charge again

Similar to the jump start of lithium that has run flat on inverterss
hmmmm..maybe put the crocodile clips on...hopefully there's a place for it...

The NETOGY 100W DC 46Wh Mini UPS/Power Bank are on promo for R309 on Takealot

Funny thing is, I literally just need a ups for the other routers in my mesh, cause the power trips and they all go off except my primary which has an old Geewiz, I tried those volkano things but those seem to trip before they "reconnect" so it was pretty useless as a ups.

That is a great price. My one runs my network stuff for like 4 hours.

Great price. Just got one just for the battery pack so i can upgrade someone's unit since 18650 Lifepo4 cells is expensive +- R180 each

Another option for R429: https://www.takealot.com/elecstor-m...wh-lifepo4-mini-ups-dual-port-us/PLID92690773

Do you think this is a better buy than https://www.takealot.com/elecstor-m...wh-lifepo4-mini-ups-dual-port-us/PLID92690773 at R429? It has way more capacity and a type-c port as well. It doesn't have a 19v port though.
Capacity wise the elecstor is better the usb c port is std 5v. Can easily add another battery pack for more capacity (4 x 32650/32700 @ R80-130 a cell double the original capacity) or buy 2 units and use one for spares/mods :)

The netogy is also not bad little less capacity but it has a 19v 5a port which i wish the elecstor had. Can also add more capacity but cells is expensive if you use the same type that is currently in there. Or buy 2 units and use one for spares/mods :)

So basically comes down to what voltages you require and if you have a lot of devices to run during a outage

These work nicely for mesh nodes. Have the elecstor unit for my 2 extra nodes

or lifepo4 unit (power cable is hard wired though)

Now it does :)

I was going to order one of these Elecstor CORE 300W 314WH Lithium Power Station for R959, they've been going on and off sale this week.
But then I was checking the owners manual and they have ternary lithium batteries(similar to 18650 cylindrical type form factor) and not LiFePO4, what is ternary lithium batteries like?
Probably not a great long term choice considering I'll use this infrequently most of the time?

Yea I think they are rated to do 800 cycles until degraded to the 70/80% level

As far as I have it the only ones that have high cycles is lifepo4 and sodium about the same and then LTO 20 000 cycles

But cycles aside, with the larger watt hour packs like this I’m assuming LifePo4 will also be more robust/reliable?
I’m just worried that a cell dies in the pack or similar and bricks the whole thing, I have no experience with the chemistry, first I've even heard of it. What is ternary even mean?
And what would their shelf life be, how would they fare stored for extended periods at 50% charge state?

High quality traditional chemistry 18650 cells are ridiculously reliable, I have some that are well over 10Yrs old still chugging along perfectly with not much reduced capacity and just about zero increased internal resistance.

? Boost converter? How many amps can you pull form it?
Used one of these they are rated at 6amps > https://www.communica.co.za/products/bmt-dc-dc-booster-12-35vout-150w

On the elecstor the top row dc ports are rated 12v 3A max per port. All that ports is on a separate pcb with nice and thick wires and not part of the main pcb like the bottom ports which is rated 8A max for all the ports. So i just soldered my input wires to the main incoming wires that feeds that pcb.

Will have to do more tests to see what the main pcb/bms could handle via that leads the cells i used is rated at 3C (18A).

Only going to power my mini pc running adguard home server current draw was 3.1A when loading windows then it hovers in the 1.8-2.2A range with power settings set on high performance haven't checked other power levels usage yet.

Im still running my old Ratel 860p for an ONT and router. It's been set and forget since the day I bought it in Feb 2021. Got through all the loadshedding and even local balckouts and that's a Li-Ion battery. Wonderful little unit.
