Howcome BA's have the highest average salary? Most BA's I know are real dumbasses and have little to no clue about how technology works. All they know how to do is churn out reams and reams of useless documentation...

The rest of the salaries seem fair/realistic to me...

And also, I think these must be mostly Gauteng figures... I've some friends in PE, Durbs and CPT who doesn't earn those levels but have same responsibilities...then again, they don't have the responsibility to not freak out in 2.5 hour traffic everyday...

I'm a network administrator and fall within the bracket. I have to admit it took a lot of hard work and fighting with my employer to get there.

If there is one thing I am certain about, its that if I want to find myself in that bracket in the next 3 years, I'll have to find myself another employer.

Probably web and internet are things like silverlight design, or straight forward web design, not asp or another frontend to db layer.

+10000000 I couldn't agree more. Most BA's I've met don't know their FTP from their WWW. They certainly don't deserve to be paid more than the highly skilled programmers they write their useless garbage for.

I'm a BA and I know my WSDL's from my API's so to speak and most BA's I've worked with are ex devs that are damn good at what they do. Me thinks you need to hire some other's

In our company the BA's are some of the smartest people around, that's why we get paid so well ;-) It's the project managers that you should worry about, they have NO cooking clue what's going on. They run around here like a bunch of chickens and no one really knows what they're doing.

I do however think that the values in the table are not true. They are based on what is advertised in Career Junction, which is usually something like 25-30K but then when you get hired you get the minimum, 25K. So the AVERAGE is VERY unrealistic and I don't think people should be despondent about them earning less than the average. We live in a country where a quarter of the the population is unemployed, we should not be complaining about our salaries. The IT industry is flooded at the moment and employers are taking advantage of this, if you leave your job now it's going to be tough to find something new.

This article is not well written, it does not give you any idea of what the level the salaries measure. Does it range from grad to 10 years working experience? Does it only measure people with degree's or high level certification? It is not informative at all therefore useless.

PS. I am a developer and I am not close to that range, but I won't know if it is a problem because I don't know who the article refers too.

I don't know it seems unrealistic to me. I have seen people get more than what they are supposed to and some people less than what they deserve, I guess it all depends on how much the owner of the company understands and values Technology. If you have a technology driven company that understands then need of it you might be better of.

My little tidbit.

Has lots to do with how someone promotes himself. Your quiet, code-monkey in the corner or loud, comes to work in jeans and sneakers becuase its the IT industry after all types seldom do that well and their remuneration often reflects that.

That documentation may be useless to you but the people who employ those BAs require it. I'm guessing that you most likely occupy something of a junior position becuase your lack of understanding around the role of the BA (ie: does not require technical knowledge, rather creates a bridge between the techies and the business) suggests that you are not involved very closely with business.

They are highly skilled (or at least supposed to be) but your technical skills do not define the word skill in its entirety.
A BA that knows about FTP and WWW is the exception. How is your knowledge of Business Communication or the writing of an acceptable BRS?
