SA IT Salaries revealed

I really thought Network & DB administrators got paid more. Guess it depends on how certified you are.

I don't know it seems unrealistic to me. I have seen people get more than what they are supposed to and some people less than what they deserve, I guess it all depends on how much the owner of the company understands and values Technology. If you have a technology driven company that understands then need of it you might be better of.

My little tidbit.

Howcome BA's have the highest average salary? Most BA's I know are real dumbasses and have little to no clue about how technology works. All they know how to do is churn out reams and reams of useless documentation...

The rest of the salaries seem fair/realistic to me...

Hmmm you could slap a inflationary increase on those figures as well for any new job seekers. Normally of you hop jobs they freeze your salary at that level until next years financial end and those figures are related to last year.

Well if they pay less than people deserve then the people leave. Happening where I am right now and i will leave as soon as i find something decent too. I think companies need to realise that you can't pay a person with a degree less than someone who works in a call center! <-- i've done it, thinking of going back to it, simply because current is ridiculous when considering the responsibility + other stuff where upon you have to stick your neck out for every thing you do.. why go through all that **** when i can study further and work in a call centre part time and still get paid better?

The problem I see is that you don't need a degree to work in IT. This is the single biggest mess up in this sector and the reason why i am not keen to be apart of it at all. I was listening to how our company is deciding who they will hire, it all comes down to money and how much they can train you up to do an 'ok' job. Not necessarily the best. Don't be surprised be supprised by the numbers of Indian and Chinese foreign people in our country ;) <-- this is what happens when the SA attitude of getting rich fast at all costs kicks in and sadly there is a minimum salary one has to keep in mind as things are getting expensive.. you can't pay someone just enough to get by each month either(especially not with a degree).

So yah.. over all I reckon IT is always gonna be a crappy sector to work in. Either you lucky to get paid ok, underpaid <-- which is a endless cycle as the industry will only pay you what your last salary was.. this is how it works especially in the western cape, or lucky enough to have started with a big corp and get upper end salary.. which is kewl till the new guy outshines you ;)

+10000000 I couldn't agree more. Most BA's I've met don't know their FTP from their WWW. They certainly don't deserve to be paid more than the highly skilled programmers they write their useless garbage for.

Actually you are under no obligation to reveal your previous salary to a recruitment agent or prospective employer. Just tell them what you want to earn, they have no right to ask you what your previous salary was, it's none of their business. If you are good at what you do then they are not going to not hire you just because you refuse to tell them your previous salary.

Well, I guess I'll be doing BA honours next year. Before the market gets flooded.

Is there a reason why I know of so many web developers that make more than double this in a month?

Yeah I was going to ask the same thing. Does a PHP developer fall under Development & Software then?
