Funny thing is that the DA has been contesting by elections ever since they were invented, but they are still a 20% party.

Everyone has their way, stick to celebrating the DA's surge in a 16% turnout by election and allow Mashaba to cook, right?

Nah, Hermie does the cooking all on his own, the DA just makes it more fun to watch his racist meltdowns.

The DA cannot afford any fun with the gangster hunting them down.

Ku rough ngaphandle.

They can afford a lot of fun, the Gangster is too busy wooing the F1 lot who are going to fleece the living fsck out of him and then he's gonna sit there with a mouth full of teefs when they're chilling back in Monaco.

ASA never won too many wards. But yes, they seem to not care about growing their party that way. No point contesting if you dont think you stand a chance. The DA do the same.
For smaller parties, it makes sense to pick & choose. They don't have resources available to big parties.

Parties like ANC & DA should have enough resources to participate in every ward. ANC should have way more than DA of course.

They actually have even more councillors now than they did after 2021 due to the mergers they have been doing with smaller parties and independents.

That is called growth in any language.

Seems like a very trivial thing but for some odd reason the DA was just not interested, even in the most basic low hanging fruit of service delivery.

Pathetic. Absolute pathetic.

We are celebrating just doing their jobs? No man.

The other day my local council resurfaced an entire street. Repainted some lines. Fixed some potholes.

Not one PR photo about it. Not even a tweet or news article.

Why? Because it’s the bare min we expect.

The DA could not even "just do their jobs", what level of pathetic is that?

Maintaining vote share in an increasingly competitive political environment is an achievement. The DA has successfully seen off the ID, Action SA, Rise Mzansi, BOSA and to a smaller extent, the PA. Tell me, what has been the pattern of the ANC vote share since its peak in the 2004 elections? It's hilarious how much you focus on the DA while your party is collapsing. The ANC has been unable to deal with some its ex-supporters permanently moving over to the EFF and the MK.

Standard NewNP/GLM tactic though isn't it..

"Look over there!"

Herman 1942, would kill to be a 20% party.

And to you continously campaigning strictly means you must take part in by elections otherwise you are not doing it right?

They have been busy growing their party all over the country by launching new branches, why is a by election the only way to be at the front and centre of the voters?

Especially since some of those by elections are 16% turnout affairs? Maybe their branches have a better turnout.
There are really only 2 ways to measure growth / decline between elections: polls and by-elections. Opening a branch just requires some money. It doesn’t mean anything in terms of growth.

Interestingly those 2 measures are derided by you because they, overall, show the ANC in free fall. Which is hardly surprising considering hate towards the ANC is at an all time high

Nope. The DA expects to lose some of its coloured supporters to the PA but it's about mitigating those losses which they did very well here. You don't get an award for coming 2nd place where wards are concerned.

You don't get an award for coming second in a ward, but proportional represention council votes may be vital in 2026 or 2027.

Those DA losses to the PA may cost it overall council seats, even if the DA holds it's current wards.
