I generally know the answer to this, but one has to wonder when our glorious law enforcement entities will wake up and deal with this dudula lot appropriately.

Trump's general approach is that everyone gets tarrifs. The only country to be "spared" is the UK and Brazil plus a few otherson 10%. The latter is puzzling because he threatened them wirh 50% just the other day but they ended up on 10%. South Africa seem to have earned a bonus 10% because he doesnt like SA for the "very bad things".

Are they going to harass kids in those schools now? How would they know which kids ?

The NY Times still has the main rate for Brazil at 50%, with quite a few exceptions (to do with the main US imports from Brazil).

Simpler than that is that AgriSA are trying to look after their members in trying to trike a deal with the Trump. Good luck to them.

I wasn't aware AgriSA directly deals with Trump. Is this a new thing or are you referring to corridor talks of Kallie taking down Cyril ?
 
Looking at the NYT chart, lots of SSA countries got away with 15%, including Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and Zambia. So yes, SA is definitely being punished due its ideological obsession with anti-West actors like Iran, Russia etc & lack of negotiation finesse.

I must say I was gobsmacked that Switzerland was hit with a 39% (!) tariff, but the Swiss will ensure a lower rate through good negotiation skills, unlike SA.
 
Realistically speaking, we should be glad that our next president is also managed by WMC to continue the tradition.

I'm sure that is not what he's saying. He is suggesting that AgriSA are being practical in understanding that they have to work through the government. They can't make outlandish claims and be hostile like the rightwing lobby who have ulterior motives like for a pushing for a volkstaat and hoping Trump can pressure the government into repealing policies.

Wait? So, the Swiss have failed to negotiate a suitable deal in 90 days just like SA. But you have somehow made the logical leap that they can recover their incompetent negotiating position but SA can't? How do you reconcile this cognitive dissonance?

Yes, because the Swiss got this as a surprise - unlike SA, whose announcement of a 30% tariff deal was made ages ago. I have far more faith in the competency of Swiss trade negotiators than ANC cadres who are in love with China/Iran/Russia and probably don't really care about the US market, unlike the Swiss who have great interest in the US market, especially their watches and pharmaceuticals.

The Swiss were on the hook for 31%. They have been negotiating and still failed. Your irrational optimism is obviously misplaced i am asking how they are different from SA. Same initial positions and both failed to sway Trump. The Swiss objectively did worse because they got slapped with an even higher tariff post negotiating. Logically that makes them more incompetent negotiators than SA.
