SA Politics Thread Part 11: The GNU Normal

An agreement amongst the parties does not necessarily mean all the parties agree.
How would you define agreement? Keeping in mind a 1% party doesn't get an equal say as a 20% or 40% party, so you can't put it down to a vote where all parties get an equal vote...

Any agreement will have its own terms and conditions that makes it an agreement, so even a 1% party can have an equal say as 20 or 40% party depending on what the terms and conditions of what constitutes an agreement are.

So the GNU parties can simply agree by the raising of hands and everyone can agree that they agree.

Or they can have a consensus where smaller members are suppressed through that sufficient consensus to reach an agreement.

I think you need to stop with the dop and go sleep. Perhaps you'll be more coherent in the morning.

And the terms in the statement of intent is that an agreement is determined through sufficient consensus, which is defined as a majority according to their parliamentary %.

I.e. ANC can't get to a majority without the DA - this very definition is the reason why the DA almost didn't join the GNU, because the ANC changed the definition to suit them. Until they were forced to change it back at the last minute, because they didn't want Cyril being elected to a minority government and risk being MONC'd.

All these small parties were only included for optics, to keep SACP happy, which in the end didn't even matter with them contesting on their own. The statement of intent was drawn up by the ANC and DA, changes were only made based on their input because they were the only ones that mattered, not the irrelevant 1%ers. And there's nothing about 6/10 parties agreeing = agreement...

This. But Champo won't understand this. Too colonial for him.

Can’t wait for the groundbreaking ideas of removing BEE and corruption
I just love the majority has to be protected from a minority
I also detest how teh majority enable themselves to enrich a select few
Then I feel sorry how the majority of the majority are so stupid to encourage the above by using their vote

Did you hate that a minority subjugated and oppressed a majority for decades stifling said majority's development and participation in the main economy, limiting career choices and educational options?
