I can agree with that.
Current property I got at significant discount so value more than doubled in the last 10 years and I have to live somewhere.
It is psychological since it is last debit order that I have to pay, others can be simply cancelled if needed.

Arguably doubled = 100% ( compounded ) over 10 years which is probably mid 8% per year. Count yourself lucky. The average per year country wide is 1/8 to 1/4 of that.
Would have earned up to double that with investments even at 8%
Yes you have to live somewhere , there is that in it , but rent is cheap these days never mind no maintenance etc. Property imo is a black hole atm.

There is the other side to this. You are aware that a lot of pretoria east was under a land claim ?

No I dont personally see it working, but even if it by very small chance goes ahead I would hate to be caught up in it

Yes it could be outperformed but still have to live somewhere and did you see rentals in CT recently?

edit: But I think crab mentality comes when job creation comes in. Don't want to work, and drag everyone into their poverty. If they can't have nice things then no one can.

In all honesty, I think for the vast majority of people they actually want a job and want to work... its the vocal minority that don't.

The strategic Cape Sea Route. Whoever controls it during a global conflict controls East-West trade.

The Cape Sea Route is not a random sea route. It's recognised as a strategic choke point by all trading nations and governments.. It's the reason the British kicked the Dutch out of the Cape. You won't be transporting any of that stuff around Africa if a single ship is sunk in the Suez Canal during a global conflict and you don't control the waters off the Cape.

It's not well known that several hundred ships were sunk off Southern Africa by German, Italian and Japanese submarines and raiders during WW2.

The Cape Sea Route controlled by the West was the reason the communists tried to circumvent it by building the Tanzam and Benguela railways. The Cape Sea Route is planned to become part of the Chinese Silk Road initiative in the future.

If it came to war , they would just invade SA . It not like we have any ships/planes or army left
All I can say is that SA does not currently control it in any manner or form

There is no reason for any country to be fighting over sa for that reason above
