I'm torn between getting the Note 3 and keeping my Note 2. The Note 3 does look like a awesome device, not sure however that it's worth R9k.

I would just keep the Note 2,still a awesome phone and Note 3 not worth paying 9K for sorry.

The key word is LESS than 9K. So maybe around 8500. In other words, pretty much what the S4 went for. And this is a much better device.

True.

I think a fair reflection of the device is R8500 max.

At that price, hopefully Vodacom/Telkom Mobile can offer me a decent contract. :)

It's still a lot of money to pay for a cellphone. Don't get me wrong I would certainly buy one if I had that much money laying around.

I agree. It's amazing how we throw prices around these days for phones, R8000, R9000, R10000. That's absurd. I got my SII on contract, paid R400pm but got R300 airtime, so I paid R2400 for it technically. That was ok, but I'm dreading my next upgrade. Here we have to buy the phones, there are no contracts.

But seriously, the PS4 will be R6000, a much more capable device in terms of processing power. Why are cellphones so expensive? I mean R10 000 is the kind of money people would normally spend on laptops or computers.

That R300 airtime also qualified for a free phone to the value of R3000-R4000, then add the additional R2400 you paid over and above that.
Nobody is forcing you to get the top of the line handset.

I doubt if you will see flexible display during 2013, unless Samsung is stupid enough to torpedo their own Note 3 launch.

And nobody is stopping you from spending R12000 on a handset, but we might call you stupid or an iFruiter wannabe.

I used the R300 per month for calling, sms'ing and data. So for me it doesn't apply. I know nobody is forcing me, but I like the top of the line handsets. Imagine having to buy the handset at that price and still add you R300 airtime each month?

But that is besides the point, I'm referring to the price of the phone here. I admit, phones nowadays have a lot of processing power, but it's not a laptop. You are not going to be as productive on a phone than on a laptop, with a bigger screen and a proper keyboard. So why are we paying so much for it?

I really got excited about the Ubuntu Edge, would've been great. Plug a screen in and bam, you've got a fully fledged Ubuntu operating system. People moaned about the price, it was between $600 - $750. That's what made me wonder, this is actually the same prices we are taking about here? For phones that can't do that.

Note: I'm not specifically referring to only the Note III here ;)

So Nashua Mobile just phoned me as i registered for pre order and I'm due for upgrade on 1 OCT. I'm currently on a Top-Up R350 contract on MTN, my total cost for Note 3 will be R599 pm. So thats not bad, R250 for the device x 24 months = R6000

I also see that Ghana is offering ADH protection with the note 3, hopefully we get the same:
"The Galaxy Note 3 also comes with ADH Premium with this premium warranty; when you break your phone, Samsung will not just fix it, we will replace it.” – Jaspreet Singh, Business Leader for Handheld Products at Samsung Ghana."

Well Vodacom better get their asses in gear if they want to make the "towards the end of September" launch, there's only 2 business days left in the month after today.
