Install a Parrot
I use it mainly for Google Maps. Don't need the car dock for the bluetooth dude. Can live in your pocket just for that

i also want to use it for gps nav. but i would like to get an app like ndrive or copilot. which is the best for gps nav. i know one can cache maps with google maps, but i need to cache southern africa, ie for camping and stuff. also do youhave a pic or link to the car dock?
Finally got my jig, now to start fiddling with different roms. A few quick questions tho:
When rooting, i understand the process, but will i lose any data on my phone? I'm talking about settings, my homescreens, widgets, apps, app data, messages, call log, contacts.. etc etc?
I really dont wanna go about installing all my apps again.. :/
How can i backup ALL that data? Titanium pro?
If i backup my data using kies, i assume i cannot import it if i install a custom rom, true?

I do a full system data and user apps/data with Titanium periodically. When flashing a new ROM I restore everything.
When going to a new kernel or a changed Android version (2.3.4 to 2.3.5 for ex) I sometimes get FC's on system apps after a restore. All I do then is go to the Settings / Applications and clear the data for that application. All comes right then.
Get the Pro version of Titanium otherwise you will get prompted for each application during a restore. I have 163 on my phone (including sys) so that would be very painful. The Pro version just wizzes through.
After the restore, reboot your phone. Sort out any FC's (as mentioned above) if any and you are good to go.
If you use DroidWall, make sure you untick it when doing a restore. If it is not restored last it seems to lose your settings for some applications if those applications are restored AFTER DroidWall during the restore process. Just restore everything except DriodWall, then do DroidWall on it's own when done.
It is also handy to do CWM backups if you become a Flashaholic like some of use here. If your new ROM sux you can easily revert back to your previous ROM then.
Kies I don't use. I installed it to check out how it sync's and stuff, did not like it and removed it. For my music and vids I use DoubleTwist. I find it is much better and works via WiFi on the paid version.
Happy flashing![]()
Wow awesome! Thanks Mike, helpful as always
The main items i'm worried bout losing are my contacts and settings (pics, vids and music can be backed up manually).
I dont even use most of the apps on my phone, so i dont really care if those go.
Just to be sure, i'll sync my contacts with outlook, but i've changed so many settings on my phone i lost count.
Has anyone taken out this phone on a Cell C contract? or have it on Cell C?, just want to double check that there are no issues before i get this,
thanks
I have... what do you mean issues?
Hi, i just wanted to make sure if there where no network issues with the phone and cell C, havnt heard anything about them, and keen to move over there for this phone and package,
I found this http://www.ps3za.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=80897, (but i just realized the date it was posted now was before it was officially released there in SA).
