How does XWLP3 compare to the LP7 firmware? I'm still on LP7, and am a bit unsure of loaded LP3 and I find LP7 to work well for me.... @JacquesR, your guide is fantastic, anybody who doesn't understand that needs to go back to school.... But if you want to root the phone, can you now also just load SuperUser and BusyBox from Recovery mode?

I am not sure that you have the option to flash an update if you are not rooted.

I found that using mobile odin is the easiest way to retain root. (even if you do not have the pro version)

1. Select "Open file ..." and put the firmware in there (i.e. Intra's XWLP7 firmware)
2. Then select "Kernel" above and put Chainfires kernel (for LP7) in there
3. Flash
4. Wait
5. Done

This is how I got from XWLA4 to LP7. No wiping done at all and it seems okay. I found on LP7, Mobile odin takes very long to read the internal SD card. It is slightly better in LPS. In later releases of ICS, this will surely be sorted out. So when I went from LP7 to LPS, I flashed LPS with CWM on the phone and flashed CF-Root with PC.

I also use Mobile Odin and it is the easiest way to flash your phone. I have the pro-version but it is money well spent.

I just downloaded the pro version of mobile odin, but I want to know, do you need a wifi internet connection to download the flashkernal addon?

It's not a requirement to use wifi. They advise it due to it pulling down files that could be costly on a 3G connection. I think it was around 10 meg.

Thanks guys, wifi did work with mobile odin.... I'm really not too sure why it wouldn't work on mobile data, even after giving permissions in Droidwall... Either way, I can now flash with on the go....:D

Hey Guys,
Sorry for the lazy approach, but can't find any info on this.
Does the S2 have a NFC chip?
Or more specifically does the S2, that Vodacom carries, have the NFC chip. (As I read it's optional, so I assume optional OEM).

Thanks in advance

Just got mine on Monday, absolutely LOVE it. I upgraded from a ****ty X10 mini so yea, it's a pretty huge jump :p. Quick question - is my battery suppose to take ages to charge?

Thanks

A friend of mine flashed his S2 to ICS last night through Odin. Odin reported a "success" but the phone is stuck in boot loop.

We tried again but its still stuck. Before it was flashed I installed CWM so that I can made a NAnd backup, but when I booted into recovery CWM recovery had been wiped and replaced with the original Android recovery.

What should we do? Reflash CWM to try and restore to the backup I made or just flash a stock ROM? Which ROM should I do?

Thanks

Yup, it takes a while to charge ... small price to pay for an awesome phone!!!

Odin does not always retain root, so you might find that the phone will not have the CWM recovery mode - hence being replaced with stock. If you want to keep root, you must upgrade to Odin PRO or flash CF-Root kernel the same time you flash a new firmware.

For bootloop - read this (courtesy of XDA pulser_g2), but first switch off and remove battery for 10-20 secs and see if that solves it (it has for me in the past). If that didn't work try the following.

1) Turn off your phone. Unplug it from your computer etc

2) Hold down home, power, and volume UP. This will enter recovery mode. If you are using CF-Root, you'll get CWM recovery. If not, you get stock recovery. It doesn't matter which appears.

3) Choose to wipe user data from the menu.

4) Turn off the phone by long-pressing the power button.

5) Prepare ODIN on your PC by using task manager to kill any KIES processes, then open ODIN.

6) Put your phone into download mode (home + power + volume down)

7) Plug your phone into the computer using the factory USB cable. The leftmost box should go yellow and an ID number will appear.

8) Flash a stock ROM from those available in ODIN format, and the phone will boot correctly.

Hope this helps

All sorted, thanks OGroteKoning.

Turns out we had to pull the battery after it flashed for some reason

That's weird, normally you don't need to remove the battery after flashing.... Since I got my phone last year Dec, I've never taken out the battery, and I've flashed almost 10 different ROMs in the last 2 months......

I have a wireless N network at home, but i cant get the sgs II to connect the wireless. It is supposed to according to the specs of the phone. How do I get it to connect?

Just a wild guess ... Set permissions (mac address) on your router?

Just did my first rom flash in three weeks (a record for me since I tend to flash new roms on a weekly basis) I went from XXLP7 to XWLP7, so far everything seems to be working as it should but I will probably only know for sure after a week or so.

Ah, you also downloaded the XEN I9100XWLP7 one for the Netherlands?

I'm downloading it now from samfirmware.com, cos my Gingerbread 2.3.6 ROM is also a XEN Netherlands ROM and the best one I've ever had on my phone.

Download speed is not too shabby.....getting 278kbps. Happy days are here! :)

Yup ... Netherlands roms was good on the past - give some feedback when you can. I'm ob LPS now and found it very sensitive with scrolling - something I like. Previous LP7 scrolling was as if it had brakes applied all the time.
