We all learn. Its good to make a full backup anyway as you you can backup your APN settings, sms' certain settings for apps as well. The codeworx team suggest not restoring apps via TB as some programs don't like it and can cause FC's. I personally have never had an issue.

Also from now on you can flash newer versions of CM straight over your current setup and not lose any settings or data.

Just remember to wipe cache and dalvik cache. :)

This is interesting. So in future I just download the whole cyanogenmod rom and follow the same instruction except for the "wipe data/factory reset"?
 
So you basically download the rom. Save it SD-Card. Boot into CWM. Go to install zip *where ever you saved the file* and flash. Then after flashing just wipe cache/dalvik. And reboot. Done. :)

PS. Do a nandroid backup before flashing in case something unfortunate happens.

Also download ES File Explorer. Where you can navigate to the folder clockworkmod and delete old backup files or rename them as well.

Hmm everything seems to be working well but for some reason I can't send sms's :confused:

The moment I press send the network signal dissapears and I get an error msg that the message could not be sent.

As I have posted on the CM9 discussion thread about SMS and network problems:

What I have found (also South Africa), is that if you do go to phone settings by dialing *#*#4636#*#* Select Preferred Network Type, select GSM/CDMA auto (PRL). Then hit Refresh to see if the SMSC number displays correction. It should be 0791 7228 199 11100 on Vodacom.

EDIT: updated to the new SMSC number. The old one would reset after every reboot

Just for clarity, the method posted on the XDA forums to which OGroteKoning linked works great.

Use the following SMSC number for vodacom as mentioned in that thread: 0791 7228 199 11100
 
I installed Siyah again as Dorimanx was giving me problems. Which governors were you guys using with Dorimanx?

The kernel is not the most stable at this point in time. It is fairly new and there is a huge buzz around its development. But, I uninstalled it and reverted back to Siyah. I am looking forward to a stable release with good battery life from Dorimanx.

I tried pegasusq on all three options. It was okay, but like I said, too much battery drain. Others are complaining about freezes and reboots, so I will wait.
 
I'm sure that this has been discussed somewhere in this 376 page thread, but anyway...
Is the SGS2 available in South Africa NFC (near field communication) enabled?

Those little NFC stickers that one can buy to change phone settings dependent on location
e.g. sticker in car to turn off wifi and activate bluetooth, sticker by front door to reverse that, sticker at work to activate wifi, put phone on vibrate, turn off bluetooth

Try an app such as Llama - it does almost all of that and lots of other things as well. Free, unlike Tasker and Locale (which I haven't tried).

I don't think the international version has NFC. At least, mine doesn't.
 
Just a quick question please: I want to install this siyah kernel for better battery life and just want to confirm the right method.

Currently I have ClockworkMod Recovery 5.5.0.4 and Cyanogenmod 9 RC1 installed on the phone.

So I assume all I need to do is download the SiyahKernel SGS2 v3.3.2 from the gokhanmoral.com site (the one that says CWM recovery) and just install that zip the same way I did the cyanogen?

Just wanna make sure before I go ahead. Thanks

All the guides say to use Odin and some other stuff but if I can do it via CWM that would be nice because I'm already used to it.
