RR looks like it has amazing settings etc but I don't like the look of stock Android.

That's what launchers are for. Mine is using the SGS3 apps, launcher and wallpapers - just to irritate those SGS3 owners around me. :) I could use MI Home to do the same with iPhone users, or GO Launcher Pro to make it look totally different. The choice is yours.

How do you get the sgs3 apps and launcher?

Am I right if I say that Portal 2.0 and the patch is non-wipe?

I wiped, purely because I was going to 4.0.4, and it's just good practice when flashing a new rom, but the patches are definitely non-wipe and add to the whole VERY good experience with Portal....

I have been running CM9 rc2 for the past few days and it seems even better than the nightlies. Siyah 3.4.1 also seems to be more stable than 3.3.3c/d which had the odd FC and black screen of death.

Could you test macro shots with the camera for me please since you're using RC2. On mine it starts to focus properly and at the last moment it bombs out and the shot comes out completely out of focus where I could previously take shots with MIUI or stock just fine

edit: some googling seems to suggest its the cm9 in general that has this issue. funny I've never noticed it.

No problems with macro shots on RC2 on mine

Guys, I'm freeking out a bit over my banking statement at the moment, seeing a bunch of payments which I cant figure out. Like the one saying something about a R30 google android purchase from yesterday, and I'm pretty sure I did nothing in any app or the store. only thing I did was update to the latest RR ROM. But the store doesnt mention any purchase.

Anyone have an idea or tips? Is it posible to somehow disable in-app-purchases?

I installed this on my S2 - there seem to be a few launcher configuration options missing but aside from that everything appears to be working for me.

Anyone know when Jelly Bean is being released for the S2 ? ?

It's not even confirmed yet that it ever will be. If you're happy to root, I've installed CM10, which has been running fine for a day now. (Slightly worse battery life than CM9, so far, for me.)

Hey Guys,

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to phones and Android so I'm in need of your help here.

I'm currently on 4.0.3 stock samsung kernal/rom. I'd like to change it over as I've found it to be buggy (not gonna go into details).

Basically what I'm after is the best current Kernal/Rom combo for just standard daily usage, I use the mobile data and wifi quite a bit everyday.

Any suggestions/recommendations ? I've been browsing and reading the last 3 hours but can't seem to make up my mind.

Basically I just want the best standard rom/kernal combo (even if they are both custom) for daily use. I don't tinker around much with my phone, basic phone calls/texting with mobile data enabled during the day and disabled at night (with wifi on at night) when I'm home (using the home dsl).

Please help!

Just to confirm, you are open to rooted ROM's, not just stock?

Yeah I'm quite happy to root it if required, if something should go wrong I'll just unroot and reset counters.

Then in that case, there are a plethora of options for you to choose: MIUI, CM9, Resurrection Remix (RR) Paranoid Android, FoxHound, WanamLite etc. The favourites on this thread seem to be RR and CM9 (with MIUI quite close), but don't be afraid to experiment with the more well supported ROM's. Always read the comments about the ROM's.

But I would advise- run Siyah kernel. Best kernel I have used.

I suggest you start here and explore and find what you like. Good luck!

So you reckon Siyah (which version, latest?) plus RR?

Out of RR and CM9 which is the more stable version? I don't care much for extra apps/tools, I just want the basics and I'll install the apps I need/want afterwards. Right now I'd just like to get rid of this seriously buggy frikken rom I have on.

Both are extremely stable. CM9 is probably the safe of the two to start with - no custom installation, just gets on with it, and has its own kernel. RR comes with the latest Siyah kernel, is quick, several power tools to boot, and you can choose a custom install if you like.

The choice, as always, is yours. For the record, I'm sticking with RR 2.6.1.
