Stock has some shortcomings, but there are advantages. My battery drain overnight is 0%. One could argue that it is like a filler tank of a car when you "overfill" the tank. You would only see the needle going down after 50kms (if you follow my analagy)

You can try ICS Domination - it gives an ICS look to the fugly touchwiz.

Going to stick with stock for a couple of battery cycles. I've been rooting and running custom for years now (Nexus One before this), so I'm quite curious to see what it's like after I can get over my prejudice against stock! Speaking of prejudice, I used Domination in the Gingerbread days, and Vertumus is so bloody annoying that I'd almost not use Domination because of it...

FYI - I got 5 hrs screen on time over one and a half days with stock XWLPD. With 2000mA battery over 7 hrs.

Vertumus is very arrogant, but I still like his work for stock.
 
So if I install Stock with Siyah kernel would the battery life be much better?

I am doing this for a friend who wants better battery life. What about Omega? is that rom any good?

Rather use something like Juice Defender. Free, and doesn't require root.
 
So something very strange has now happened to my phone...

Yesterday, I inserted a Vodacom 32k SIM into my phone to test whether it is working. Internet worked fine, put in my usual Cell C sim. Since that moment, my phone has been in constant boot loops.

It stopped last night after I did a bettery pull and fixed the permissions in recovery. It restarted about 30 minutes ago and has been going on non-stop. I have fixed permissions again, reflashed two different Siyah kernels and still no joy... Very odd. I'll have to do a wipe and restore later if it doesn't work.
 
been trying to help my friend who go his S2 water damaged. long story short the only thing thats not working now is his home button and touch sensitive button at the bottom. So we used adb from stock to get into download mode and used odin to root device. we then rebooted into recovery using cmw menu. We then install paranoidandroid v1.1 (cm10) and this is where we are stuck in a bootloop. We still can't hold the home button so we can't force it into recovery mode. Any other suggestions?

That's what launchers are for. Mine is using the SGS3 apps, launcher and wallpapers - just to irritate those SGS3 owners around me. :) I could use MI Home to do the same with iPhone users, or GO Launcher Pro to make it look totally different. The choice is yours.

Sure, but I'm not just talking about launchers. I'm talking about all the interfaces etc. MIUI is just pretty :)

Install a custom ROM using Odin that supports on screen navigation buttons?

On a similar note, after trying the CM10 ROM, i've found it a little too unstable for daily use, data connection was on and off the whole time. So I thought I'd try the RootBox ROM, and damn, I like! Been reading the thread and seems like the developer is something of a perfectionist, so can't wait to see him release a JB ROM :D
 
thats why I was installing paranoidandroid. But on its first restart like I mentioned I am stuck in a bootloop...

  • replaced superuser with supersu (only when autorooting, your existing app won’t be replaced)

  • Update 3.5 -> 3.5.1: fixed brightness and led problems. changed compression to gzip for faster boot (increased size)
  • update 3.5.1 -> 3.5.2 fixed CM10 booting problem

So I managed to fix my phone, and restore it back to its former glory. Still not sure what could have happened, but it seems that my /data folder was corrupted. But a flash back to stock via Odin and then re-rooting and flashing MIUI back on seemed to cure it. Will monitor to see if it occurs again.

And with Siyah v3.5.2 out, I will be dual booting the CM10 ROM :)
