merc, which MIUI are you using? Official?
I am currently using Kaffee4Eck 2.7.20, but also had battery drain and heat problems with official MIUI.
Also, which modem are you currently using?

The theme is the "Echo V4.4 2nd Theme" - which can be downloaded from here, as well as others - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632424
The clock and weather widget is UCCW - Ultimate Custom Clock Widget. Get the app from the market, then there are literally hundreds of different clocks that can be imported. Try Google, or this thread on XDA - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387518

I'll send you the .uzip file that can be imported into UCCW if you don't find it.

Also using Kaffee4Eck 2.7.20. Haven't had battery drain or the heat, much more stable than the AdyScorpius version I had not too long ago...

I mostly use WiFi for 'net access on my SGS2 but when I use 3G it is very, VERY slow. Status bar shows either E, 3G or H depending where I am but that does not seem to change the speed. The phone info shows "WCDMA preferred" and baseband is XXLPS. www.speedtest.net app gives me less than 100kbps download and not less than 500ms ping to Rosebank.

Any suggestions?

Have you perhaps tried another modem? Nevertheless- I do think this is a network issue. LPS is usually an excellent modem.

what the best stock ICS rom / modem to use? aka best battery and most stable for SA? note this is not for me its for a buddy so no custom roms (thats my department lol).

thanks

For those who want to see what the pink spot on photos looks like. here you go.
The pic is of a desk we have at home, I saw this funny face like shape so i took a photo. look how it came out tho. Photoshop can fix this but I am just showing those who dont know what to look for.

The original.

I am currently running Neatrom lite, which is based on UHLPS. I'm having better battery life now than with any other ROM I tried.
UHLPS is however 4.0.3, and 4.0.4 is already out. Not sure what it's called though

There is only one "for SA" firmware/rom, and it is XWLP7 - Vodacom (not sure if other networks). But It_ler at XDA used XWLPD as a base rom for a lot of his battery tests and LPD proved to be a good economical base to work from. I am also using LPD and have no complaints, but it is not an official SA rom.

LPD is a 4.0.3 rom and there are 4.0.4 roms out already.

As far as modems are concerned, I tested a number of them and found XXLPS to be great. It is coincedently the one that comes with the official LP7 rom for SA

Thanks for the replies. Will try a different location and a different sim card to see. Wouldn't be surprised if it is the network.

Guys, which modems do you rate highly? I've got my hands on the LQ6 modem and am about to flash it. I currently have XXKL1.

Tested the following in order of preference:
LPS
KI4
KL1

And also the following which had either bad readings or no readings at all.
LQ5, LQ6, LPX, LPF, LPG, LP3, LP4 and LPA.

I used Network Signal Info to measure the signal strength (reception). Although all the modems worked, the first three mentioned had the best readings.

I stick with LPS as it is the only ICS modem I prefer. I think because it is the latest of the top three, it will be slightly improved over the other two GB modems.

I know this is not very scientific, but that is my story and I'm sticking to it. :p

Awesome man. Thanks so much!

Guys, I'm getting no network service at all with LPS  It takes a few minutes after the phone boots up to get a signal. I flashed it through CWM. Are there other steps before that, that I perhaps missed? Maybe I should try another modem...

Say, LPS is 4.0.3 correct? Which county's kernel are you using then? Trying to get it from samfirmware ^_^
