I'm with LQ6 now. It's almost as bad as LPS. Using MIUI 2.7.20. The "Network Operators" option FC all the time. It's a known issue with MIUI and hasn't been resolved yet. I wanted to select Vodacom from there.

Which ROM are you running? Had some issues on the MIUI ROM I am running, but I reflashed the modem and it came right.

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and see if it allows you to set your network type...

Stick with LPS, it will come right.

If you are using MIUI 2.7.20, you should be able to select the network mode in the notification bar. But you have to switch off data first, choose your network mode and re-activate data. Works for me.

MIUI 2.7.20. Thanks for the tip. I tried changing the setting, so I'll see if it works.

I already selected that in settings but thanks for the tip. My data is always off - I just use Wifi :) I'll give it a reboot and see if it works better. I reflashed it earlier as well. Thanks for all the advice, guys :)

Is this NELP3? I tested this and although I did get a connection, I could not measure it and therefor reverted to LPS. I read somewhere that if the reading is dBm85 (100%) with Network Signal Info, that the modem is not 100% compatible with the network it is used on. I don't have more info on this, but this is the reason why I discarded it as "tested but not suitable". All networks are not created equal and what works in the UK might not work as well over here.

As I am typing this, I am testing NELP3 again:
NELP3 gave me 4/6 bars of signal strength and a reading (100%)

Back to XXLPS:
XXLPS is giving me 6/6 bars signal strength and it registers dBm-79 (70%)

My conclusion is that LPS is better suited for SA, but you can use what you feel comfortable with and what works for you.

I know the networks are not the same, but the different modems also change between edge/3g/h+ at different rates. When they change connection type the connection drops. So i like LP3 because it doesn't switch every 2 seconds, and the signal is good, and the battery life is good. Lots of guys in the UK said the same, so maybe our networks are similar (I'm on cell c, incase that makes a difference).

Do you find the signal strength to be good? And does it stick on H+ once connected?

Thanks for the feedback. I am mostly on wi-fi, but will do more extensive tests once I find time to spare. I will look for a tool that can log switchover between edge/3G/H+
 
I am using the LPS modem and my signal strength is bad. I only get 1 bar if I am lucky and according to Network Signal Info it is 4%.

My wife is also on MTN and she has a crappy Vodafone858 but she gets full strength sitting next to me.

Any suggestions?

Flash the following modems and see if it helps: KI4, KL1, LP3, LPW
If they all give the sam poor signal, then it is not modem software related.

I had my network set at WDCMA only and when I changed it to auto it jumped to 70%.

I will in any event check out those modems.

Seems like you are sorted - no need to play any further with other modems ... but if you are a flash junky like me ... FLASH AWAY!!!
