Brother received Samsung Galaxy S2 from work......he gave it back after 3 days, said they must give him entry level BB.

He says way to complicated.."I wanna see there's my laptop, there's my phone, there's my iPad, thk you very much"

OT: I have MIUI (ICS) and I want to install 4.1.1. If I do a restore with TB, will the apps be properly restored?

I did that on my second ROM (can't remember which JB ROM it is). Works fine, even with data. Only system apps that might give a problem.

It should restore the apps and app data just fine. I know MIUI is slightly different, but I have had no problems restoring apps and data to and from stock sammy, RR, CM, Wanam, NEAT, etc

Anyone know where I can buy a newish (0-3 months old) S2 with warranty for around R3500?

It's OK performance-wise, not fantastic but I can live with that for everything else it offers, does work faster with JellyBean though.

Hey Guys,

I am looking for some help. My phone seems to be losing charge at a rate of about 5% an hour when I am at work, tried with 2 different ROMs (NEAT and Wanam stock+rooted) so far and 2 different Modems (LPS and LPG) and it is the same with both. At home, it loses around 1-2% an hour which is much better. The difference I think is the signal level, at home it averages around -85dBm (3G) and an average of around -105dBm (3G) at work which I think causes it to switch between 2G and 3G often and that could be the reason for the battery drain.

Aside from switching my phone to "GSM Only", do you guys have any other suggestions to improve the signal/battery life?

The main culprit on the battery usage screen is Android OS:

I recently switch my modem to BVLP7 after reading the raving reviews on XDA from my previous LPS. My signal is a lot more stable, speedtest.net gives a more stable throughput.

Give it a try... also just let the modem settle for a day or two since flashing.

So Ghokanmoral did it again!

He included a very nice new feature in the latest Siyah kernel. With the help of Tungstentwenty, you can now put swype gestures in an init.d file and and swype on any screen enabling shortcuts to apps or processes, etc.

The standard init.d script compiled by Tungstentwenty, you have three swype gestures:
1. Two fingers swype from left to right - one finger high on the screen and the other one low. This will create the negative effect (like when you pres the home button 4 times quickly)
2. Three fingers evenly spaced across the screen swyping from top to bottom. This will enable the camera
3. One finger planted and another making a Z one the screen to dial a number of your choice

The third gesture did not work for me, so I replaced that with a heart gesture to instantly phone my wife. This swype gesture was compiled by Ghokanmoral so I merely implemented it. You can also use these gestures from the lockscreen.

EDIT: Oh yes ... if you flash the latest Siyak kernel that enables this functionality, you will (for now), not have battery or performance profiles. You can still personalise the profile to be more battery friendly or more performance driven. Ghokanmoral will include all the profiles later when he finds this new seupt stable enough. On the stability side - I have had absolutely no issues thus far! Solid as a rock

I have been using this ROM (build 1) for about a week now. Generally I am happy with it, it looks clean and fresh. Google Now and the new Google Search works flawlessly! I have not installed Build 2 due to may negative reports I read about it. Few issues:
> There seems to be a slightly poor network reception, I have noticed on two occasions where my network bar was completely empty, trying to call the phone went straight to voicemail. If this persist I may need to go back to my stock ICS (upgrade)
> Apparently Bluetooth isn't working, I haven't really tested this though.
> FM Radio ain't working!
> Lack of default "Power Toggles" (e.g Bth/Wifi/Vibrate/etc) like it is on ICS. I know there's a number of apps that can do this, but ain't just not the same!
> Lack of World Clock built on default Clock. On ICS/GB you can add world clock by adding different cities etc, I missed that on this ROM!

Oh, I was never able to restore my sms/text even though I did a backup with TB. So pissed with that, is there a workaround?

Other than that, I'm quite ok with the ROM.

Any views, tips advice?
