I didn't have a problem, but i thought i should just double check as i use a custom kernel. I installed this:

And it turned out i had a mismatched RIL/Baseband, just installed the proper RIL and will see if it gives a better signal.
 
Can anyone here please post MTN APN's? My sister does not have T Backup in order to properly use APN Backup and Restory, and she doesn't want to spend money just yet...

Try and create your own...

From home screen, press menu, settings, more..., mobile networks, access point names
then press menu, new apn
press name and put in whatever you want to like "MTN.Manual.APN"
then press apn and enter "internet"
press the back
select the apn you just created and test

Edit: Added "." to replace spaces in apn name

Hi guys. My wife just got my old S2, but she id with MTN. Her data doesn't seem to work.

Can it be that I must update her PDU? What must it be for mtn?

I don't get the GetRIL app. I have flashed my S2 "into another realm" with ROMS, kernels, modems, etc and never needed this GetRIL app. I once downloaded it to see what the fuss was all about, and sure it said that there is a mismatch. So I did what the app suggested and afterwards checked the response on the phone. Nothing improved, not the speed of any connections, not the signal strengths or anything related to modems. So can someone please explain why it is "usefull"? :confused:
Is there anyone who has actually benefitted from GetRIL? Please tell me how and what notable differences you experienced afterwards.

Update on my GetRIL experience so far.
Installed it yesterday and last night my phone data signal dropped down to Edge and even to plain old GPRS for a while, it has never done this before, it used to always be on either H, H+ or 3G. It did however previously lose signal occasionally.

Its currently on H/H+ so will give it a few more days, it could've just been a coincidental network issue last night.
My Baseband is I9100PBVLP7 and my updated RIL is I9100PBVLP, it used to be on: I9100XXLPS; I9100NELP3.

Its weird though, before i updated the RIL it said the recommended for my baseband was I9100XXLPS, I9100NELP3 but it showed as a mismatch.

I use getril, not sure how useful it is either. But I think I've read that it helps reduce RILJ wakelocks, I stand to be corrected but I'm sure I've read this.
 
GetRIL is generally used if you are having data connection issues i.e. no data or dropped calls and connections. GetRIL downloads a compatible Radio Interface Layer which the modem uses to communicate and connect to the network thus providing the correct commands for the modem / radio to communicate. If you are fortunate enough to not have any issues after flashing a new ROM (which often include there own RIL files) then there is no necessity in using GetRIL. A forumite mentioned that he/she was having issues with data so I made a suggestion in using the app. :) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Interface_Layer

Have you ever used it? Did you perceive the benefits mentioned? (not argumentative - just interested)
 
Heads-up: I'm using the latest build of JellyBam [2012-11-14] (Yes, I know, copying and all that) - but it is unstable, to the point of distraction. I can't really use it - YouTube crashes it, opening games crashes it, heck starting up the phone crashes it sometimes!

Waiting for CM10 stable build for i9100 to pop up, and I'll flash that. I love my Jelly Beans too much to go back to ICS. :D

:) Yes I use it. Had issues with connecting via HSDPA this past weekend after flashing CM10. Used the app and everything worked afterwards. I can't say it fixes wakelocks but it fixed my data problems.

Thanks, I did create a new APN, but it still doesn't work.

Also checked out the GetRIL app, which found my Baseband being UHLPH but my RIL being UHLPZ. I updated the RIL and it didn't make a difference either.

Can it be that I have the wrong Baseband for the MTN network? I'm not sure how these stuff work
