How did you flash it, with Odin?
 
Yes, then I flashed Philz kernel through recovery to get root and cwm. I am very happy, battery life is better than any other jb rom I have used so far.

Hi, would you mind putting the steps down to install the 4.1.2 JB leak when updating from official ICS ROM? Including Rooting etc?

No, not on custom ROM's just yet, unless they want to use the stock kernel, as the sources have not yet been released, and will only be released after the official JB release.

Sure, it is the normal ondin flash dance/fusion jazz thing. :)

Go into recovery, (HOME + VOL UP + PWR), and clear cache and factory reset.

Open Odin on PC, put phone in download mode (HOME + VOL DOWN + PWR) and plug phone into PC
Put the CODE file in PDA, MODEM in Phone and CSC in CSC. Don't use the .pit files.
Make sure that partition is UNTICKED.
Press start, AND DO NOT UNPLUG

After you finished the setup of your rom/google accounts/etc, copy the PhilZ kernel (.zip) onto your external sd card. (ONLY IF YOU WANT ROOT+CWM, otherwise it is not needed to flash this kernel)

Turn the phone off and go into recovery again, then flash from external SD, choose the .zip (clear cache + davlik cache after you are done, although its not that important with a new rom) and reboot.

You now have JB stock rom + stock Kernel + root + CWM - Brickbug = Awesome

PS. there is also a CWM flashable zip with ROOT and DEODEXED (275mb) available here, easier for thise with CWM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997366

Thank you, I tried to find the download link for the CWM flashable zip to no avail. It seems that the release had some bootloop bug which is being fixed.

Rooting and Updating ROM without VOID warranty (remember to reload stock ROM)

I'm only a N00b when it comes to Android, rooting and ROMS. This is a procedure I have followed successfully on multiple phones.

As for the new leaked 4.1.2 JB ROM, what is the difference in installing custom ROMs compared to this?

I've been having a look at the possibility of rooting and loading a new ROM without incrementing the custom ROM counter. Even if you were to reload the stock ROM, they might still waiver the repair under warranty due to the custom ROM counter.

This is a simple way to root the stock kernel without flashing insecure kernel. This won't increment the custom counter neither will you see the yellow triangle upon boot.

  1. Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
    - CWM via stock recovery or download zip from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
    - SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
  2. Reboot to recovery
    - While device is powered off, press and hold the up volume key, then the home key, then the power key (all simultaneously).
    - When the screen comes on with the white text, continue holding home and volume up keys, but release power key.
    - When you've entered recovery, you can let go of all keys
  3. Choose apply update from external storage
  4. Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear
  5. Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
  6. Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
  7. Reboot
  8. You are done and now your device is Rooted

From here it is easy to install Mobile ODIN and even load new ROMS from CWM.
 
Okay ... so I have been running the latest offivial JB leak for a day now ... It is so much smoother than ICS and some new features (not going into that for now). But I decided to remove it and return to ICS and this was a schleb and a half!

What I did:
- Downloaded the fw from SamFirmware to phone
- Backed up current ICS
- Unzipped the JB fw with Zarchiver
- Purchased Mobile Odin Pro (only R45 and I wanted to do that a long time ago anyway ... and it supports the great work Chainfire does)
- Then opened MOP and flashed the FW whilst injecting root (YES it works very well with the JB version) (and from what I understand, this is what Philz's kernel does)
- Let it install and when it booted up, I went through the motions of setting up since this is a wipe version
- Installed TB and restored all the apps I wanted to use (which was basically all the apps I have on ICS)
- Played around a lot and found it works well

But I don't want it for a daily driver since it does not have CWM as we know it. Recovery is also very limited and it can not even backup or restore.

So I am back on ICS now because I am now waiting for GM to update his Siyah kernel so I can dual boot. But going back to ICS was not plain sailing. I did not want to lose all the hard work of setting up JB (don't know why yet), and wanted to make a backup of what I have done. I restored CWM with TB, but that proved useless since CWM did not have all the usual features.

So this is what I did to get back to ICS:
- Download and install ROM Manager and install its CWM to get the recovery menu back in order to do a backup
- Did a backup of the JB rom
- Flashed GM's Siyah kernel with MOP
- The phone booted but hung at the startup screen (which is actually good news since it showed that Siyah was installed). I did this just to get a proper recovery menu back from which I can work further
- Reboot (Home + Vol up + Power) into recovery from the hanging screen
- Restore ICS backup I made this morning
- All systems back to normal

So for my fellow flash junkies out there, I would recommend that you wait with this JB firmware. You are limited in "playing" around until such time the clever oakes at XDA can come up with a kernel that supports all the features we got used to with Siyah and Dorimanx. Oh ... and the

EDIT: Oh yes ... the first time I touched a PC today was when writing this post - everything above was done on my Sammy

PhilZ kernel has full CWM with more features than siyah.(except dual boot) Full backup and restore functionality. If you flashed it you it would have been a 5min job to revert to ICS.

But yes, the kernel does NOT support OC/UV/BLN/etc. but is super battery friendly as it is and the new functions are more fun than custom ROMs for me at least. But perfectly capable being a daily.

Any other reason why you decided to remove it? CWM and backup are available now..

No not really. But I have restored the JB fw now, installed PhillZ kernel and will see how it goes. It is weird that something as small as CWM can be a decider for me.
