If you read the review posted in the post above yours:
This is not to say the smartphone is pointless. It seems the Galaxy S II Plus isn't meant to coexist with the regular Galaxy S II - not in the same markets anyway. It's a replacement that looks to optimize manufacturing costs. The reduced storage and the outsourced chipset clearly point in that direction.

They used cheaper hardware on the SII plus, halved the storage and it seems like they skimped on the Gorilla Glass, other than that it is the same phone:

We will only know what effect the cheaper hardware has on the phone once someone benchmarks it next to a regular SII.

I am saddened by this - Samsung is stooping to the fruits low standards now. If the fruit patented useless hardware ??upgrades?? (4S -> 5), then they will sue Samsung for doing the same now. I accept that the S2 is very slowly but surely reaching the end of it's reign, but bumping the legendary S2 with an inferior product is stupid. Rather leave it alone and move on. :(

Agreed. At least with the S, when it got an S+ it was an upgrade, not a downgrade...

I think the S2 still has a lot to offer with the official Samsung Jelly Bean ROM running on it. :D

And, to be totally honest, I doubt if I will buy a new phone/upgrade again in 2013 when everything is running smooth.

Would rather switch to prepaid and get rid of any contract I still have. Like Raithlin said, the S2 is more than good enough.

But I agree, Samsung must stop diluting their mighty Galaxy S brand name and make Jelly Bean available to all the people who bought S2s and put them in their nr 1 spot.

Hmm, lets see what Cell C has.

Hmm, mtn has one for 189 on contract. With a JB upgrade imminent, that will tide me over till the next round.

how did you find out that mtn had one? I was told everywhere it was discontinued :'(
 
if you're in JHB MTN in cresta still had one in stock last week and MTN in Worldwear (Fairlands) still had two in stock (i took one :-)))

I got my second S2 on this MTN 100 contract.

Was at MTN in Tyger Valley, Bellville.

I'm sure MTN might still have a few in stock, or be able to source it from another shop.

Samsung to launch Galaxy S II Jelly Bean update in February

Just over a week ago, Samsung announced the details surrounding the upcoming Galaxy S II Jelly Bean update, but didn't mention an exact date when for the start of its rollout.

Today a company spokesperson has told CNET the update for the former Android flagship is coming in the beginning of February in Singapore, with the rest of the markets to follow.
The update will be downloadable only via the Samsung Kies app and not over-the-air, because of its extra large size.

Launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread back in 2011, Samsung has been taking good care of its former flagship upgrading it to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and now to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. More than 40 million people have bought the device paving the company's road to the throne as the biggest smartphone manufacturer out there.
We'll continue to follow the news surrounding the update in the coming weeks.

We will first have to wait for Samsung to make a few bucks from the G2 plus, before we will see the ROM.
 
Meh... Not worried about a later launch. I already run JB and like I said before, the changes between the leaked version and the official one will be minimal. But I can understand that people waiting for the official release might get frustrated.
 
Ok, so the AC!D Audio Engine is pretty impressive. A significant improvement over DSPManager. Definitely worth a flashing.

Just make sure to do a nandroid backup, and uninstall DSPManager or MusicFX prior to flashing the mods.
