I got myself the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and it is absolutely fabulous. It runs JellyBean 4.1.2 out of the box, so it really just feels like an oversized Galaxy S2 :D

The screen is much brighter than the S2, it's also a full RGB non-pentile Super Amoled display, and the battery life is insane. I am getting close to two days with standard use. Love the Note 2 and will definitely be using it for years to come.

I would like to thank each and everyone who participated in the Galaxy S2 thread, it has been the best source of knowledge, tricks and tips for my Galaxy S2.

A special thank you to OGroteKoning, who was always willing to help and give advice.

I still love my S2, but don't think it's fair to leave it in a cupboard, but rather pass it on to someone who can still enjoy this fantastic phone. ;)

It's been quite a ride :D

I'll be hanging on to mine for another 10 months or so, then it will also get passed down.

It has been! :)

Just incredibly difficult to use a phone with a 4.2'' display again, after using a phone with a 5.5'' display.

Don't want to use the old saying of bigger is better, but for reading stuff, using Citrix receiver on it, watching movies or video clips, using Google Navigation, and much more - there is simply no comparison.

Oh, and the stylus is just the cherry on top. My phone now has a "mouse". :D

I'm having serious doubts about Samsung atm. I'll see what they have on offer next year, but Sony is looking mighty impressive.

I fully agree with you.

The software and hardware problems present in the Galaxy S4, and the build quality of the Note 3 is just showing signs of rushed products with no more quality control. Also, Samsung trying to force all their own apps on you and hijacking the Android experience is not making me happy either.

In my personal opinion, the Galaxy Note 2 was Samsung's finest hour.

IMO, the Galaxy S3 and Note2 were a hard act to follow, Samsung were not totally sure where to go next with the S4 and Note3. Both are great products but it is pretty clear the Competition has caught up in many areas

IMO, the GS5 and Note4 will be incredible, Sony, Nokia and LG have thrown Samsung some great hints at where Samsung must focus for the 2014 flagships. In all honesty, I am expecting to see OIS, Dual LED or Xenon flash, Waterproofing and even thinner bezel in the GS5, OR at the very least 4 out of those 5 features. I think a large Camera sensor and better build quality are a given.

I took the Telkom Mobile Smartplan 150 deal.

You get a brand new Note 2 and pay R299 a month for :

150 anytime minutes, that roll over for six months
Free TM to TM calls for the first year
150MB monthly data to use on a roaming network, like MTN
5GB monthly data on TM network

Think I will be using this contract for a very long time. :)

Oh, and the Note 2 is simply awesome. :love:
 
So my S2's wifi died yesterday, switches off as soon as i turn it on. I've tried everything from factory resets, to different roms (neatrom, extreme rom, and 2 different stocks), and different kernels but still the same result.
I've come to the conclusion that's its a hardware fault. If I tap on the top of the phone it even loses the network signal for a few moments.
Replacing the mainboard will probably cost too much
 
I have a problem with battery drain on my S2 and the Omega v24 ROM.

I really like this rom, but getting less than a day out of the phone is a bit of a downer. Will have to investigate further when I have the chance.

I got rid of omega due to exactly this issue. No idea why but since v21 it drained the battery about 1.5x faster than before.
 
I see mention of location services draining the battery, so I have turned of all those features (gps, determine location via network, etc.) to see if that helps. Also enabled power savings mode to see if there is a difference.

gps-lock seems to keep the phone from going to deep sleep mode, which would explain all my issues.
 
Anyone here figured out how to get the Kitkat launcher and google search to work on an S2? The launcher works flawlessly but search keeps crashing...

I saw an article somewhere. Could depend on your ROM as well, I think.
