The Apple vs Samsung court case all of a sudden makes sense now, someone at Apple got hold of one and realized they in some deep doodoo

Everyone rates this phone high from slashgear to engadget, gsmarena even Techradar had lots of praise.

Once a phone is launched, what is the typical waiting period before our networks release it?
Since I am due an upgrade, I am not going to buy one out-right.

I shouldn't be reading threads like this when I have to wait another year to contract end time :(

This device looks awesome: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/

So the question is: how do we get one?

There's always expansys, but it's pretty expensive.. still an option though. http://www.expansys.co.za/samsung-i9100-galaxy-s-ii-16gb-209114/
R7,679.99

Couple international options:

http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/4203/samsung-galaxy-s-ii--16gb--sim-free-unlocked-

Both have international shipping as well as paypal/cc options. Anybody know of any other reliable ones?

Bugger expansys or any local importer. They're just out there to make a quick buck by ripping people off.

Handtec is very good, I ordered my Galaxy S from them last year. Looks like the SGS2 is a bit more expensive than the SGS was last year, maybe wait a bit for the price to drop. Demand is going to be high though so don't count on it.
If you want to import it, I say go with Handtec.

I'm tempted to sell my SGS for this, my heart says yes but my brain says no :(

Both my heart and brain says sell my Galaxy S :p I really dread this phone. The GPS is rubbish, my camera (thanks to the smallest of hairline scratches on the lense) no longer focuses and i am fed up of having to put a custom rom on it to actually make it useful.

As soon as the SGS2 gets under R5000 i am buying it.

SGS2 is going to have its own set of problems I'm sure, they all do.

I wonder how much it will cost to 'upgrade' from my SGS. If the SGS still fetches a good price maybe I will. I really like the look of the SGS2.

Well as long as one of the problems don't include unusable GPS then i am fine with it :)

Some software updates later and I'd say my SGS has ok GPS. Used hacked Google Nav for finding my way around.
When I first got it the GPS was like a bad joke but it's definitely decent since Froyo 2.2.1 at least.

I'm using an unofficial Gingerbread ROM now though. Stock ROMs are for noobs ;)

I am running ZSJPK with the JQ1 modem and my GPS is still terrible when using Co-Pilot. Compared to a friends Nokia N8 i might as well just use a road map :-/. It is constantly thinking that i am driving on the wrong road or that i am driving straight on a road when in fact i turned off it long ago :-/.

Samsung SA is saying it is only coming June/July :(
Was hoping it would be May - early June.

Any ideas if/what the pay in will be for this phone when starting a new contract with say Vodascum.
So the question is rather: will pay-in/24 + (contract monthly cost) > R500 ?

I am not sure I could wait for 2 months. I might be tempted if something else gets launched sooner, Like the SE ARC or HTC Sensation.
Who am I kidding... I will wait for the SGS2 - just hurry up and get it here, dammit! :D

The wait sucks but it will be worth it.

Sensation is a serious contender for me. But will have to wait for some good reviews before I make up my mind.
