I'm sure you've read that Google Voice in SA: phone calls from Gmail, my question is, has anyone of you ever managed to setup the Google Voice Android app successfully? Mine always get stuck at the setting up of voicemail PIN.
Comments?
Does anyone know when the 2.3.4 Android update will be released in SA officially? I know that one can get it unofficially but can this be done without rooting the device? And if so, what are the disadvantages of doing it this way?
There are bug fixes etc. People say the phone is smoother since updating.ok cool, thanks...I thought as much but just needed confirmation. Are there any speed or battery improvements with 2.3.4? The only advantage I know of is the ability to do video calling via Skype...which is basically good enough of an advantage for me.

Not official. Those are "Frankensteins"I'm on 2.3.5 thanks to miui somehow lol..
It is both smoother and uses a bit less battery. I think you mean video calling via GTalk.
I gots video calling with skype, somebody made an app, looks like skype, feels like skype, does front cam and back cam 2 way vid calling. tested it yesterday via my wifi, works a treat.. Google for Skype developed by theos0o
I got my SGSII today from Virgin Mobile. My Desire got stolen out of my fiance's car and I only had to pay in R400 to get an early upgrade.
The problem is the phone won't connect to the network. Status bar says emergency calls only. Trying to connect to a network in Settings says Unable to connect. Trying to make a phone call says Mobile network not available.
I did some googling and I see that there are other people with this problem. People suggest rooting it and doing a sim unlock. Tried that but it only returns an unlock code of a few 0's. Trying a different ROM now, MIUI because it's what I'm used to. Going to flash it on the phone now and see if that helps.
I had to do a sim swap because my sim was stolen with the phone...The salesperson assured me it will work the second I walked out the store though. I phoned Virgin to see if they can help and they just said to remove the battery and sim for 5min and it should work, but it didn't.
Anyone else had this problem and know of a work around if flashing a new Rom doesn't work?
Hi guys,
2 nights ago I wiped my SGS2 completely, flashed stock KG6 Rom, then flashed VillianRom 2.4.2 KG6.
I must say, the battery life has never been like how it is now, EVER since day 1...
Other ROMs I could barely get a full 24hr on it with moderate to heavy usage... With this ROM, I've gotten 49 hrs and its still got about 10% of battery still in it...
Just got my usual apps that I had on my previous ROMs... I don't even have Juice Defender on this ROM and its like this...
All data conns are active - wifi, bt, gps.
So yeh, this ROM is certainly the best for me... I guess its personal pref again with ROMs... Most ROMs act differently to differnt people...
Cheers

Any links/tips?
I want to try Darky's, I still have the Vodacom firmware, there are no updates (at least from the phone's update checker, I haven't used KIES (yuk) yet).
I want to get a jig, then get the Vodacom ROM handy in case I need to send it in for a repair, and then flash generic Samsung, then try various roms.
I've flashed a few SE phones, but am entirely new to Samsung/Android, so I'm a little paranoid atm![]()
