I rooted :) but now I tired to load my secure version of KF3 and it keeps failing, any ideas?

Thanks...you're 100% right...I'm actually gotvol of Vodacom. I'll wait the couple months for my contract to expire, see what the best options are at the time and port.

I had been making enquiries on upgrades etc over the last week. One of the outlets called me back this morning to see where I was at with all the deals they'd offered and I told them of the decision to wait and port to another network. They wanted to hear nothing of it and when I mentioned it was not just a personal decision but the contract is a company one, they've made a deal for me which I couldn't really refuse and looks like I'll get my new S2 tomorrow or Friday :)

edit: actually, they're quicker than originally expected, I can go collect phone now :)

What's the first things I should be doing when I get my S2 just now to set it up? I've never used Android before and do have an existing Google account.

I am pondering if rooting my phone is worth it...

Any thoughts on the advantages?

sgs2 is my first android phone to. had it for 3 about 3 months now awesome phone and android is realy great . so many apps

Agreed, I'm on my S2 for 2 weeks now - no pun intended.

One question: on my BB, I could click on a SMS, select Forward As and send as email to myself - those SMS's one wants to keep.
Is there a SMS app for Android which will allow similar - stock app on phone does not.

I too moved from BB to S2 - happy with my move and learning the odds & ends as I go.

Same question as posed below: is there an SMS app that will allow me to click on SMS and select Forward As - email as was possible on BB?

What are the current best contract deals for the Galaxy S2? First choice VC, I'll consider porting to other carriers if it's really beneficial.

Vodacom is to expensive and the sgs2 neads data ,cell C seems the place to be

CellC might be the cheapest with data but they'll be the most expensive with this phone because they do not stock such high-end phones in general - their market is lower- to middle-income. Also, if you do want this phone from them, they'll order it - they do not keep stock because it's too expensive.

When I upgraded, I wanted to port my number back to CellC but that was going to cost me R1 600 pay-in for the phone plus connection fee plus SIM fee. In the end, it was better to just stay on MTN and pay just R1 100 for the phone plus an upgrade fee. In fact, you can get this phone with no pay-in on Anytime 350 contracts and above.

What I found with apps

The way Android handles app updates, is to install the updated version over the old version.

So, if your app starts force-closing, or stops working, just check the market for an update; install update and voilà, you're back in business.

I now tend to look at app maturity, number of downloads, and reviews, before I even download an app, but even this doesn't guarantee that it will crash at some stage.

Interesting... I got my SGS2 on CellC ActiveChat 220, no pay-in, for just R280pm incl vat, CLI, itemised billing. Also I just walked in, signed up, walked out with a shiny awesome new SGS2. Maybe they just slow in the cape....

I think GO Sms can do it

Thanks, it can - open SMS, long hold on SMS, pop-up menu - select "Share this message" and various options pop up.

Although it can, it's not completely what I'm hunting for - it does not capture sender number & time received when "converting" to email, making it almost redundant.

Please let me know if there are others - too many to try them all.

Thanks

Personally, I haven't done it yet. I just don't feel the need. Sure, there are some nice features that are 'unlocked' but Ja.

Google the advantages of rooting. If they appeal to you then go for it. Just make sure you know how to unroot in case your phone has to go in.
