You are referring to the Westcrips AOKP ROM still, right? Have you had any issues? I started downloading it, read that many have experienced issues, and stopped my download. Perhaps their issues were with earlier versions, like version 2.

I also want the pure ICS experience...

That's right I'm using Westcrips Rom. I'm still on version 1.3 though and haven't experienced any problems with it yet. Everything is smooth and working as it should. After about the second day I also began to notice that my battery seems to last longer than it used to.
I know there was an issue with the camera on version 1.4 but Westcrip already released a fix for that.

I would suggest that you download it and see for yourself if it's working for you or not. Most of the time I'm not experiencing any of the issues that people complain about and I think that's likely because they are not following the installation instructions.

I tried it. I loved it! But I need to reflash after restoring a previous ROM - I could not find my SD Card, or the 'EMMC' storage (what is that?) Subsequently, I could not restore my Titanium Backup files. Also, not cool losing a huge chunk of available data. Titanium Backup's main screen said my SD card had 963MB, but that none of it is free. Same with 'EMMC'.

I followed the following method in flashing, chronologically and precisely to the letter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24725796&postcount=20235

Reboot into recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Install the Main ROM
Install the Gapps for AOKP
In recovery go to Advanced
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Fix Permissions
Wipe Cache Partition
Reboot
If at the first boot you can't do the configuration of the google account, skip that step and continue
When you boot into the system for the first time you have two options:

a) Stay with the Kernel by default (CM9, works perfect) or

b) (Before of this point please make a backup!!!) Install Siyah Kernel / Thoravukk Kernel

If you decide stay with the default kernel then go to the step 18 of this guide, if don't go to the next step
If you decide flash the Siyah / Thoravukk Kernel, then reboot into recovery
Choose Install zip from SD card
Install most recent version of the kernel that you choose
Reboot
When you boot into the system, you can do the configuration of Google Account (if you don't do this before)
This is the moment for install all the extras like themes or fix's (like phone fix for v1.3 or camera fix for v1.4)
Enjoy!!!"

I tried steps to 'mount' the sd card, but Android's built in way says it was already mounted. I unmounted, and mounted again, but to no avail.

I''m going to reflash, doing less of the steps, and not flash Siyahkernel, just stay with the CM9 one that comes with the package.

Initially I had issues sending sms's, but yes, it did really seem to resolve itself.

This ROM is so beautiful and amazing, I can't go back to any form of Touchwiz now. I've seen the light.

EDIT - On that same FAQ page I linked above, there are possible solutions, I am going to try that.

Everything on your sd card is stil there. The sd card is now called EMMC instead of ex_sdcard. (or whatever it was called)

With file explore go to the Root of your phone and you will see EMMC where all the files on your ext sd card is located and SDCard where all the files on your internal memory/sd card is located. You will need to change to backup location of Titanium Backup to /mnt/emmc/TitaniumBackup it will look for your backups there and automatically locate them.

EDIT: Updated to XWLP8...ICS is awesome...mmmm

Hey did you have to reset everything before you flashed? Does Intratechs firmwares all have the old bootloader or is it just the Frankensteins?

Busy downloading XWLP8 have already downloaded XWLP7 XEU not sure which one to use for SA

Thanks

Still happy with my official ICS Netherlands ROM.

Everything is working, graphics look a bit more responsive (been playing GTA III) and my HD movies and music videos look and sound brilliant.

Very very happy with my "new" phone. :)

Ok, had a blonde moment with my Galaxy S2 this morning and thought I'd share it with you.... :)

Made a phone call this morning and heard a distinctive buzzing noise coming from my phone's ear speaker. Made another phone call and again I'm greeted with the buzzing noise. Got so sad and thought to myself - I really don't want to hand my baby over to the cruel repair people. No way.

Got really sad, but remembered that this happened when I was running the ICS ROM and Gingerbread ROM, so it's not software related....so my preliminary investigation pointed to a faulty ear speaker = hardware repair. :(

Then I went to the shops a bit later and answered a call.....and guess what? No buzzing noise!!

When I got home, I realized it's when the phone is connected via wifi to my Huawei B683 router, that the ear speaker will make a buzzing noise. On HSPA+, no noise.

Problem solved. *smacks forehead* :)

Im contemplating buying Sygic. What is you guys' experience with it? And is the price once off? Or a year subscription?

Why do you want to buy Sygic when you already have Google Navigation on your phone + Samsung give you Route 66 with lifetime licence for free?

Your wallet burning a hole in your pocket?

I think it's once off. And it is a really nice app, no complaints here

I feel that Google Navigation cant hold up against a dedicated GPS in the cities.

I dont think Route 66 is in the new roms? I havw stock XXLP7 from Intratech and its not here

Because you cannot navigate to coordinates via Route 66 (try getting to a holiday place like Thali-Thali without a street address or a POI without coordinates). Route 66 is essentially the cheapest, most basic GPS software on the market and lacks pretty much all the important features of a dedicated GPS save the maps. Google Navigation requires data usage unless you've already pre-cached the entire route to your phone.

Sygic is completely offline, has excellent support and offers lifetime map updates.

Total cost? R250.

Hardly burning a hole in my pocket, I spend far more than that on entertainment in a month.

Sygic is the best software there is for Android at the moment and I've tried them all.

Ok, you have convinced me - buy it! :)

Haven't used Google Navigation extensively, but when I used it, it worked a treat & I didn't see huge data usage.

Will have to check Google Nav again, cos I'm sure Google Labs also gives you the option to cache maps offline.

Hi guys. I am upgrading next month. And I am really wanting the Galaxy S2. I am with MTN at the moment. They have it for R299pm with R200 airtime and 10mb data x 24months. Is there any place that has them cheaper on contract?

That seems to be the price you will pay regardless of where you take out the contract. The only way to get it cheaper is with a big pay in.

Just flash the kernel for that Rom from this thread via Odin.
