Samsung Galaxy S2

Nothing obvious dude. My wife has been playing on her GS2 all morning and not moaned about something not right once.
Running it on my Note too and for the Note it is still in beta, yet no issues here too.

EDIT: I lie, I had one issue when I flashed yesterday. On both GS2's and my Note. SMS's would not send. I just Googled the SMSC code for Vodacom and all was good again.

Great. Thanks.

CheckRom V6 is as stable as possible for me.
Have never gotten a single lockup/reboot/whatever.

Battery life is great still has all the touchwizz tweaks like:
screenshot key combo (home + power),
slide at top notification bar for brightness,
slide left on a contact to msg,
slide right on a contact to call,
three finger swipe on a list scrolls continuously,
...just to mention a few.

I see no need for ICS and I use my phone and depend on it. I am not gonna be a beta tester. Will wait for ICS to mature.

Is this stable? XWLA4_CheckromRevo_HD_V6. and how does it compare to ICS 4.03?...

I used CheckRom HD V6 on my GS2 right up until I got my Note and moved on. It is a brilliant ROM. For me, it was the best of the bunch.
I do however prefer ICS now. CM9 specifically.

Thanks Mike, I'm currently using ICS 4.0.3 it works for me I'll stick to it until there's a drastic change :-)

@Mike Thinking of flashing CM9. Have you picked up any serious bugs or problems yet?

Just to second Mike's response. Besides the Vodacom SMS issue (I'm on MTN, and it's never happened to me), everything works fine. I've been running CM9 for at least 2 months now, very happily. Theme support is now enabled too, and while the currently available themes contain many rather ugly ones, I imagine this will progress rapidly.

I recently got a new sim card for my phone and noticed that when I go to : Settings > About Phone > Status , "My Phone Number" would just show "Unknown Number".

So I remembered that my old iPhone 3G had the feature where you could put your phone number on the sim and quickly wacked the sim into the iPhone to do it.

Worked a treat, now my Galaxy S2 is displaying my phone number properly.

Wonder if the Galaxy S2 doesn't have the feature to "program" your phone number on the sim?

*Was also good to find something useful for the iPhone to do. :p

Hi Guys - which CM9 roms do you use (I assume nightlys)? I tried CM7 a while ago and I want to give CM9 a shot ...

Have any of you guys tried dual booting with the Siyah ICS kernel? I'm currently running a dual boot consisting of MIUI v4 and FoxHound ROM. Must say, I am highly impressed by MIUI, both looks wise and in its smoothness. And the dual boot works wonderfully- shared storage and kernel sources across the ROM's, but totally different apps for each ROM.

Think I might load the Paranoid Android ROM, just to see how it looks.

Yup ... I tried it and it is awesome. I did ask GM to include an option when installing, to ask to install user apps from the primary rom. He said it will be included and if I am not mistaken, this might be in the latest release 3.2.2.

I think ParanoidAndroid is the same as D4 but renamed. I tried that for a while for the tablet UI, but it was too small to read, so I ditched it.

The nightly's are what I stick to on all devices.

How often do you update CM9 nightly? When I looked on the site, there is literally a build for every night and picking a build is like a toddler deciding which colour smartie to eat next ...

I typically update once a week to the latest.

Is it worth while updating so often? How much do they add/fix? Seems like an aweful lot of bandwidth to use if you are not on uncapped (which I am not). Or are the updates only for changes in which case it would be about 8MB?

Depends on the changes. Mostly it is tweaks and stuff so not necessary. I am a flashaholic and have uncapped so I just do it.
I would say just monitor the CM9 section relevant to your GS2 and when the changelog has something that you think will benefit you - then go for it.
On average the updates are around 128MB or so.

If you don't have a simple need to just flash (like some of us - considered a problem :)) then check every 2 weeks or so and go through the changelogs. If your phone functions perfectly then perhaps just check in from time to time and have a look.

Thanksfor the info Mike

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the hype surronding CM9?

CM9 is just another rom you can load onto your SGS2 instead of having the stock Sammy roms/fw. It is probably the most popular rom out there. It's much lighter (125MB) than Sammy roms (350MB), has no Samsung bloatware, has nice features Samsung should have included in their roms, has a clean look, has an actual ICS look ... and many more. there is some nice reading material on the CyanogenMod site, so if you are interested in really getting to know the rom, then read a bit over there. There is also a lot of info on XDA

@ Mike Smit
Sorry to be a pain, but why is there no file explorer or play store in the CM9 nightly build? I downloaded the build from 13 May.

I just installed the stock ICS firmware, currently not so pleased, GO launcher Ex turned from ultra smooth to somewhat retarted, even Go locker is freaking out with screen flickerings when unlocking the device, then again it may just be a GO problem, but it was ultra smooth on Gingerbread. Sadly I've grown so used to the benefits of GO that I struggle to function without it D:

CM9 of course requires Root, right?

You have to download the latest GAPPS (Google Apps) to get Play Store, GMail, etc... Cyanogenmod has always been like this and mainly to give you the choice. Some peeps don't use any Google stuff.

As for the file explorer, I cannot answer. I never noticed one was missing as I have used Root Explorer for so long that I don't even notice if there is no default one. Just grab one from the Play Store (after doing GApps :) ).
