Samsung Galaxy S3

What modems are ppl with good battery life using?

XXDLIB on mine.
Battery life OK I guess, sitting around 30% at 6PM with WiFi on permanently, moderate use and doing some navigation on my way to work.

Why are people messing around with modems?

I've had numerous different roms on my phone all with their stock modems and have never had an issue with voice quality, call drops, signal strength etc

Because we can?

You can also increase call quality, lengthen battery life etc...

I've been on JB for almost two weeks and is generally very happy. But, this morning my phone started dropping calls, crashing in internet explorer and when I can get/make a call the voice on the other side is perfect for a second, then "muted" for a second, then perfect, then "muted" and so on.

Ish.

Okay, you some how installed IE on your phone. Logical reason why it's crashing.

Got new battery and drain is a little better.
7.8% PH in freaking airplane mode with screen off.
Over this crap. Time to sell me thinks.

I understand I should cycle a few times before judging but it should not be this bad still.

That's ridiculous.

Have you installed better battery stats? That could give an indication of whats chomping so much juice.

Yes. No rogue wakelocks.

I have done stock ICS, nothing extra installed except BetterBatteryStats and battery still drains. BBS even shows Deep Sleep just over 80%. Yet drain at 8 to 9% odd.

Freaking nuts.

Perhaps the hardware is faulty then? (Broken radio/GPS/etc)?

Thought maybe that too.
Odd thing is all functions operate as expected and drain when I am actually using the device is normal. It is screen off that is bothering me.

Thats weird, I did my own test last night.

Turned wi-fi and mobile data off (cell radio still on) and just left it while I slept. It lost 1% over 7.5 hours, so something is definitely dodgey with yours :(

I just put my phone in Flight Mode, cos it switches everything off, except my alarm clock. :)

I tried that 2 days ago dude. Still drains in flight mode
That is what led me to believe it was a battery issue.

I installed JuiceDefender Ultimate last night and did not dock my phone when I went to sleep. Lost 40% over just over 6 hours. Better than prior tests, but still kak.

Go to xda and download better battery stats for free. Then post an over night log either there or here. I'll see what's keeping your phone awake.
Make sure to charge to 100 percent then unplug and leave phone overnight. Oh also reboot before you start the overnight test.

Definitely a process/app that is constantly running.

Do a factory reset and do not install any new apps, just do Google account and WhatsApp.

Then check for a day, if still poor battery life, phone or battery is a dud.

If not, you have a baseline to work from.
