Samsung Galaxy S3

I picked up Nova Prime for R2.07 during the sale. It's not bad, but the fact that it can't display two lines of text under each app means the majority look stupid with cut-off names. Some can be renamed but generally that doesn't help. The awesome S3 weather widget isn't available in Nova and Beautiful Widgets was a big disappointment as a replacement. I realised the only thing I really like about Nova are the cool scroll effects, but that's not enough to put up with its other shortcomings.

The Touchwiz weather widget is available on the S2 when using Nova, so I'm sure the Teslacoil devs can make it happen.

I emailed them about giving me an unread count for WhatsApp and one of the devs replied pronto.

Do the local stock roms have fast dormancy enabled OR does anyone know if vodacom has fast dormancy?

Drilling down battery usage with BBS. Have reduced usage a lot by tackling maps, google backup, refresh rates, rogue apps.

Now my highest user is fast dormancy.

Everything about fast dormancy here

I have been using Nova Launcher prime, really like it as it looks and feels like my Nexus 7 :p

Only thing I am yet to figure out is how my widgets are displayed the same way apps are displayed. Currently if I go to Apps / Widgets the widgets are all in a list, I prefer it the way it is on the Nexus.

It requires root to do that. Its a feature of Nova prime, and one of the reasons I moved from ADW.

Saw you posting in the XDA African Galaxy S3 thread as well. twarwizard said Vodacom doesn't support it.

Note to everyone running s3 stock based Rom, disable fast dormancy (Vodacom at least)

My S3 is only a few days old, still too scared to touch it. :) It's not even rooted yet. I have just been reading a lot of XDA forums to see what there is to work with and what direction I should go. Stay stock, Sammy based ROM or AOSP based ROM.

Coming from Nexus S (which just got 4.1.2 OTA - completely stock), I'm very disappointed about Sammy not releasing the required source and documentation for Exynos chips and one of the main CM guys (clockworkx) no longer supporting Exynos because of it. The international S2 + S3 aren't supported in the CM 10 "M" builds because of this. I read that they will never be a part of a stable release and only nightlies.

Stock based. Why aosp's camera sucks, and last i checked only supports up to 5MP. (Also, i use allshare)

If you do go stock based, then omega is a safe bet.

BTW i assume the South African Rom's don't have fast dormancy.

The screen off/hold animation on the new Omega v28 is awesome - like turning off an old CRT monitor.

Use to have similar on the oxygen roms for the HTC desire. I want a fan of that effect.

Do you think I should update Omega Rom from 27.1 to 28? Is there a big enough difference to go through all the trouble?

What trouble? It takes like 30 seconds once you've downloaded the file. It's definitely worth it. Each new version gets a bit better.

What steps do you follow from the beginning to end??

ie

Backup
Wipe
Install
Restore
And anything inbetween?

1) Download file
2) Transfer file to sd card
3) Reboot into recovery
4) Install Omega from zip file
5) ???
6) Profit!
