Samsung Galaxy S3

I used my old cut down sim from my iphone in my S3. It kinda worked but I couldnt get my 3g to connect and had other random issues. I took it in and was told by the Samsung specialist called in that the old bigger sims that are cut down dont work properly. they have had lots of issues like that. So did a sim swap and all sorted. Save yourself the hassle.

I did see that my girlfriend had a regular sized sim but the actual metal part was very small (microsim equivalent) cutting that one down might ...might work. If you have to cut any of the metal away then its not a micro sim equivalent.

That's exactly what happened to me. Was extremely annoying because I only realised mobile data couldn't connect when I went to my beach house for 4 days. New sim sorted it out.

Why buy the cutter, which would become the least used item in your house, when MTN will cut a sim card for free? They even cut my step-dad's Vodacom sim card when he got an iPhone 4s (not from MTN).
 
I downloaded the template and used normal scissors and stole my wifes nail file for touch up. Pretty easy.
 
im having an issue with my notification for tasks. I set a task and add an alarm but 90% of the time the alarm doesnt sound and neither does the task appear in my notification bar. Only after opening my tasks for the day does it sound & display.

Anyone else having this problem?

Did the following steps but nothing happens, where do I go wrong?, or is there another step that have to be included.


Extract the firmware
Open the included Odin
Turn off your device
Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
Then finally click START!

you probably have your answer already but just install the drivers.

ot but kies for os x sucks. runs the cpu at 100% for no reason at all. forced to remove it...

You only really need it for the first root.
After that Mobile Odin will suffice where an Odin flash is needed and you can remove Kies from your PC.
 
guys im looking @ getting a s3
can you guys give a short summary of the main issues users have experienced with the s3?

Does not last should be defined. Most tests show the SGS3 to be one of the phones with the most staying power. These are smartphones not feature phones. Mine lasts from 6am to 8pm with moderate (possibly more than moderate, not sure how much others use their phones) use all day. It gets charged at night like all my previous smartphones.

The only thing i dont like on the phone is the location of the capacitive back and menu buttons, and that they are capacitive. When i use the phone horizontally, and type with my thumbs, some part of my hands always hit those buttons. Annoying.

It most certainly does.

My first S3 had major battery issues as can be seen by posts I made in this thread.
I RMA'd the device and got a new one. This new one has the best battery I have ever had on any of my devices.

I take my phone off charge in the AM around 06H30. Browse the forums a bit, catch up on email, etc... Take the kids to school at 07H00. My son plays games on it from 07H00 until 07H30 when I drop him off. By now I am at around 92%.

I then go through the day with a few calls (2 maybe), more forum reading, a bit of pulse. Not too much activity. I get home at 16H00 with battery around 75%.

Wifi on 24/7. Bluetooth on except when connected to office network (thanks to Llama) and connected to car while driving. Mobile data always on (limited to 2G). GPS always on. Location services always on.

If you having battery issues, I seriously suggest you take it back and try get a new one. Made the world of difference for me.
