Mmm...a variety of reasons:

Didn't want to sign up with VC for another 2 years.
Didn't want to sign up for another 2 years to get reduced rates.
Got phones for free from my employer.
Just to damn lazy to go and sit in a VC store.

Yeah, I saw it was going to be announced soon, doesn't really make much of a difference to me. My experience thus far with phones is that if I wait for the next release or announcement I end up waiting for the one after that as well. Better for me personally just to get something I like when I feel like upgrading.

I'm not attached to VC at all at the moment, just my number, so if that can be ported I'd go wherever I get the best deal.

The best and only deal currently is to get your phone via FNB (or cash anywhere else) and then go on a month-to-month contract on Cell C. No question
 
For those of you running CM10.1 -> I've found that completely disabling all the Chronus widget options seems to improve battery life.

Anyone else noticed the same?
 
I'm sick of my N8 now and it's giving me endless hassles so I don't think I can wait for the S4 to come out...
I am due for an upgrade, I'm with Autopage at the moment.
Can anyone advise who is offering the best deal on the S3 at the moment? Best I've seen is VirginMobile - R300 per month which includes R200 airtime, 200mb data and 200 free sms's.
 
Yup. Usage was high on BBS. Probably coz of the weather and location update frequency. Don't think you can change it though.
 
My mobile Data usage for Jan was 447MB, Wifi is on during most of the day. Wifi internet usage was around 1GB.

That is the best S3 deal. My mom applied for it weeks ago and still doesn't have the phone or contract. I highly recommend that you not get it though. The S4 is going to be an absolute beast and you will live with buyer's remorse for a long time. If you really can't hang on that long, wait a little while for the Sony Xperia Z. That and the S4 are the only two Androids you should be considering.
 
Mate of mine is in advertising they handle the Samsung account. Word has it they launch in July. I'm gonna hold out with the S3 till then. I bought a spare battery, a good charger for the car. We should be good. I see in the Lumia thread, they also can't get through a day with normal usage. We're all in the same boat non point in switching seats.

You think I should wait another 4 months? What do you think the S4 will have that the S3 won't?
I also assume the S4 will be a lot more expensive than the S3 when it is launched?...

It should launch at a similar price. People thought the S3 would be more expensive than it was. Samsung are pushing hard to topple Apple's dominance, and price and availability are their focus points.

As for the S4, we already have a pretty clear idea of what it will be. A display 0.2 inches larger than the S3's, a far superior battery, wireless charging, an 8 core processor, 2GB ram, probably 64GB storage and probably a 13MP camera. The Sony Xperia Z is also awesome as it has awesome hardware and is completely waterproof.

I've come across a few people selling new or almost new S3's for crazy low prices lately. If you can snap one up for a song then go for it. It's still an awesome phone and I can't imagine anything slightly newer tempting me to upgrade.

Research a bit more. The SIII already launched in 16, 32 and 64 GB models. Our networks just decided to all sell the 32GB version. Korean and NA versions also have 2GB RAM. (The US ones have only a dual core CPU but Korea/Japan has a quad-core 2GB version). And all models of SIII, including ours, already support wireless charging.

Do you think I should get the S3 now and be stuck with it for 2 years or be stuck with my N8 for another couple of months and wait too see if I can afford the S4 when it comes out?

I don't need to research more. I know what capacities the S3 is available in - I meant 64GB becomes the standard size. I know the Korean S3 has 2GB ram, but I don't see how this is relevant to us, and wireless charging is currently crap. Almost all tech sites that round up the S4 rumours include talk of Samsung's new fantastic wireless charging.

As I said, if you can get an S3 very cheap then go for it. Otherwise it's S4 or Xperia Z.

Sure R36 (for Prime) is not exactly a truckload of money but I find it a bit of a shlep to pay for something that the standard but yet limited Touchwiz supports natively.

Also tried them all, it's a disgrace that something as important as notification badges are missing. I'm back on TouchWiz because of that.

GO Notifications is a terrible waste of space. It's a fine idea, and awesome...when it works.

Anyway...I should have just got a Lumia 920. This goddamn S3 is such a flimsy fuking phone, dropped it 10cm and the whole screen is not cracked. Goddammit.
