Ok having a bit of an issue with my phone. For some reason its draining at like 1% every 3 minutes or so. So overnight with a full charge without using it and power saving enabled it completely runs flat. WTF?
If I check the battery stats it says "Media" is using 73%. Where else should i be looking for the cause?

Oh running 4.1.2 Polish, non rooted.

I am somewhat impressed with this phone, but it's flimsy as hell, don't drop it, not even 20 cm. :mad: Android also seems like a very resource-hungry OS. For a device with the specs of the S3, there is still noticeable lag every now and then. I have to admit (without turning this into one of those dratted iOS versus Android threads) that I have not noticed this after working with an iPhone 5 for most of yesterday, and the iPhone 5 is only dual core.
 
Hi all,

I had my SGS3 since December last year, and although for the small crack across the screen, it's been a dream. Although initially when I got it, it had ICS 4.0.4. Which I found to be extremely slower than my previous SGS2. I decided a software upgrade was the only thing to fix this issue of mine.

Now I am upgraded to the latest Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - I used the XFE one from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9300&pcode=XFE&os=1&type=1#firmware and proud to say that there seems to be no ISP branding of any kind, besides samsung. I am on the Vodacom network here in CT and everything is working 100%.

Also, what a major difference in speed, I mean I can actually feel the quad core working now.

That's the one I flashed, still have the Vodafone logo when the phone starts up, but that's really no issue for me. Also cannot tell if there are any speed increase from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. Only thing that I like more so far is the improved panoramic camera function.
 
Don't know if this has been mentioned before but i found that by disabling the S Voice function when double tapping the home button make the device more snappier - closes apps faster etc as it doesn't have to wait to see if it must open up S Voice

Also changing the animation to 0.5x helps allot

That means your sub-model is prone to the problem. Suggest that you update your ROM/OS to latest version which contains the workaround, and hope this problem has been put to bed!

You know, I returned to my previous back up of 4.0.4 and when I flashed a second time, the vodafone logo stayed there. Tried flashing a third time and now it won't go away, I'm positive it wasn't there the first time. Or I'm just drunk as I sit here at work.

There's a guy here with 4.1.1, and to be honest there is not much of a difference that I can feel when working on both.

@Nimz, Totally agree with you except I disable most of the S apps, aswell as those HUB's. Any of the Samsungs app that I feel I never make use of. Which is most of them. Definitly makes a big difference.

As well, If anyone is interested or incase someone isnt aware of the app "All in one toolbox" which allows you to select certain processes you'd like or do not wish to have run on system start up and is extremely handy.
 
What's the big issue with carrier branding? The splash is only displayed for a second or two on startup, and after that, there's no carrier logos or anyting anywhere :confused:

In my opinion the phone is pretty sturdy and I have dropped mine from over a metre several times. Get a good cover and hope for the best.
As to the device being a bit laggy I believe you could be mistaken. If you flash a rom or even keep your phone stock there are tons of apps running which eats into your memory. If you install the bloatware that you really use and leave things like Flipboard, Music and Games Hub etc., the phone is snappy and always has ram to spare. I use to even have a bit of lag when ending a call for a second but since I have done a clean wipe of my device and flashed the new Omega v40 I cannot complain about the multistasking ability of this device. Also as mentioned there are a few ways to make the device snappier.
Play around an you might suprise yourself. I use to wonder why the device didnt come with 2GB ram but I think 1GB is more than enough to do everyday tasks like maps,email, browse and whatsapp with ease.

So I need to flash a ROM to make it more snappy? The phone is not slow in general, but I expected more from a quad-core.

I use Omega, and it's marginally faster than stock. That's probably only because I removed all unwanted bloatware though.

No, you can experience the stock experience with all the bloatware running in the background that you will never use.

Alternatively you can do a bit of reading in the world of android (XDA forums) and try out different roms to experience a variety of roms. Ex. Vanilla AOSP Android 4.2.1 - ICS 4.0.4. Choose what bloatware / samsung features you wish to use and customise the look a feel of the roms. Whatever floats your boat.

Perhaps you can see which apps are running and try clearing your memory to see if the device is more responsive. Or try elaborate on what seems laggy in your opinion.

Stating that the device has some lags on a stock rom with all the bloatware with who knows how many of your own apps without even clarifying what is lagging is hardly anything to go by.

You do not have to flash a custom rom. To each his own. You can also wait for Samsung to bring out firmware updates which will further optimise the software of the device (same a display drivers) will also result in a snappier feeling device.
