Samsung Galaxy S3

I am sure this has been asked before but not going to search through 260 pages so here goes.

I need to reset a Samsung S3 from Vodacom back to factory default:

What is the default rom they come with? and can someone link me to a location?

Ok got the app $2,50. This is what I see now. What do I need to do just leave it running or do I need to configure anything or what?

Haven't been religiously following this thread for some time now.

Still happy with my S3 and the wife with my old S2.

Bit lazy I know but can somebody please tell me what the latest stable and official ROM is? OS has been getting a bit jittery and unresponsive lately.

Just search for your firmware on sammobile.com.
 
For anyone interested, I flashed SuperNexus. It's a really nice vanilla ROM, probably the best. I went from around 95MB free RAM on Omega with little to no applications actually running to around 400MB free on SuperNexus.

Some annoyances I didn't expect from vanilla:
- The capacitive menu & back keys don't remain off until pressed any more. Extremely annoying having them light up whenever you touch the screen, and just as annoying disabling them altogether.
- The task manager and 'end all' button are Samsung creations. Also very annoying.
- SuperNexus is all about no bloatware, yet I'm stuck with all the Google BS because SuperNexus doesn't include the Play Store and requires Google Apps be flashed. Ffs.
- Samsung has more menu options pertaining to basic stuff. I can't even find a way to set WCDMA on Cell C.

I think it's just those four points that suck hard. My system is definitely more responsive, and it's great having half my RAM free. Restoring messages, contacts and apps with MyBackup Pro went off without a hitch.

Its OK to sample the experience of a Nexus phone, but in my opinion CM10.1 is much better. By default CM10.1 is functionally & visually identical to SuperNexus (i.e. pure Google/Nexus Android experience) however it provides way, way more customization functionality.

A small example, I like the newer JB 4.2.x arrangement of having separate Notifications and Quickset Toggles panels, but access to is not very efficient. To get to Quickset you either have to swipe into Notifications and hit the icon, or swipe with two fingers, but two fingers is not possible one handed. In CM10.1 I can reconfigure it such that if you swipe down from the left half of the screen, Notifications as usual, but if you do it from the right, straight into Quickset.

It may be subtle, but pretty important to me. Quickset is where I toggle silent mode and have to do it many times a day (one handed).

I've always stayed away from CM. There seems to be a constant stream of issues being reported, and I'm suspicious of anything that gets updated so often. I'll consider giving it a try though. What's RAM usage like with a blank install? Battery life?
 
Definitely flashing CM later. The toggles aren't even toggles - sends me to relevant settings page. The annoyances from my previous post are getting on my nerves more and more. I hope CM can fix them, otherwise I'll probably head back to Omega.

Again cant comment on the S3, but on my S2 I saw no perceivable difference between SuperNexus & CM10.1. I'm pretty sure most of SuperNexus is based on CM code anyway.

Currently RAM usage 447MB used, 343MB free, and thats with DashClock and all its extension running, live wallpaper, Exchange sync, Facebook, Location services, Whatsapp etc. (all the usual stuff). Battery life is decent, under heavy usage with everything left on about 16 hours uptime, with 3 hours screen time using a 1900 mAh battery.

I tried a couple of Vanilla Roms (CM10.1 and Paranoid Android and SuperNexus).

I am too dissapointed with battery life on vanilla roms. I have been on an awesome rom and will reccomend it to anyone looking to try a new rom. Very stable, great battery life and awesome looks.

Comes with Jkay framework so the notification area is very customizable.

Since the update to 3.1.2, when ever I try to open a photo from within an app (Such as Instagram, Whatsapp, KakaoTalk, etc etc), the picture gallery would freeze. So I can't open pictures from within an app. Happening to anyone else, or anyone that knows how to solve this?

I'm really not amped to flash/format the device.

Awesome to see another Bodyboarder on the forum. I spent many a summers at lucien, st mikes etc bodyboarding. Im on the North Coast now.
Anyway as to your problem I think it was due to changes in the Gallery that came with 4.1.2. Did you wipe before upgrading? You could try go to settings > application manager > all > gallery > clear data. Then roboot and see if it works? Otherwise I would recommend doing a backup of your data and wiping your device.

What totally fukcs me up is how they change the gallery for the better, but then remove a cool feature it had in the old version, in this case, on 4.1.1 you could sort your photos according to date (day/week), in this one, you can't. :(

Yeah I know what you mean. With the ROM I have now (Xperianze - few posts up) I have the Sony Album app (as well as the stock Gallery) which has a nice chronological layout of photos.
