after watching this pocketnow video of the S2 vs S3, what's your view on the differences and just how big the gap is? Not talking differences on paper, just in terms of how you use the phone(s) on a daily basis?

The S2 is awesome... But not as dashing as the S3.
S2 is running stock ICS... And feels a tad laggy. Apps take a little longer to startup..
S3 has a smoother flow and feels faster..
Right now dual vs quad... Not much difference.. Since the NOTE with the marginally faster CPU is almost as snappy as the S3.

Bottom line... S2 is not out... At least till apps start making real use of quad cores

How does the Note compare to the S3? Not in size, but performance....? I would think they'll be very nearly identical in performance.....?
 
Perhaps a silly question and it's probably been answered before but:
I really like the look of the SIII, thinking about getting it but not really interested in rooting it and all that. Is it still worth it or is it better to go for your closed-type setups? Anyone not planning on rooting?

Come close... obviously no apps optimised for quads as yet...
Stock ICS on Note is good.. on the S3 a few niggling things like lack of scrolling wallpapers are a let down...
In terms of noticible differences..
Camera, contacts and messaging open up nearly instantly on the s3 no lag..
Apps open up twice as fast..
Switching between apps is also significantly quicker on the S3

I'm getting mine in a month and planning on running it as is for at least the first while. There's no reason to root or install a custom firmware (not sure if there are any good ones even out yet), there's some stuff you don't need but it doesn't affect the performance as far as I could tell from my short time with one. Some of the good stuff is definitely worth keeping, such as the eye-tracking feature that detects when you're looking at the phone and keeps the screen on. This is the first very useful and actually new feature in a smartphone in a long while.

In other words, expect the iPhone 5/The new iPhone to "invent" it in a few months' time and sue Samsung.

Thanks, yeah reckon I'll keep things as is for the first year and maaaaybe look into this whole rooting thing then.
 
would've loved to get the GS3 but once again its a smartphone thats just too big (albeit very thin)... opted for a pretty standard and uninspiring iPhone4 (lost my BB 9900 and insurance covered it for around 6k - the 9900 was by far the worst phone i have ever used in my life)
 
Rooting, shmooting. The only benefit I would see it adding is Titanium Backup at this point and even that is covered with the local backup facility and the extra space Dropbox gives you.
