Samsung Galaxy S3

Sooo my contract is up for renewal tomorrow, phoned vodacom to query s3, managed to order my s3 and to my suprise they had the blue one in stock..now I can hardly contain myself.can't wait for the phone to arrive!!! Yeeeeaaaahhh!!!

Screen is your biggest consumer. So reduce brightness and screen timeout.
Gps and Wi-Fi off when not in use.

Next biggest user is data. You can use apps such as JuiceDefender to periodically toggle data, say 1m on every 15m. You can also set data to 2g only. I'm against messing with data connectivity unless you really won't be near a charger. It takes the smart out of your phone.

Turn sync off or refine your sync settings to be less frequent and only apps that you need.

Install a monitoring app to record cpu usage of apps. This will provide you with a cpu usage timeline for each app. You can then find rogue apps that are constantly draining juice. Note, these apps themselves use a significant amount of battery, so only use it to discover a problem, not all the time.

Custom roms have less crapware, hence less battery his running in the background. Also added advantage such as firewalls, custom screen brightness levels, 3g only-2g only-3g/2g settings.

How can someone disable the update notifications? I have a user who does not have a wifi connection and he does not want to update the phone, but it keeps notifying him of the update.

Update did complete yesterday. Just 2 new things I noticed.

Not 100% sure though if the option to set the screen brightness to Auto or Manually was always there from the quick settings drop down menu :D

Flipboard seems to have been added to the apps.

HSPA+ is a 3G technology. The fastest one as far as I know. It only reverts to UMTS (which would show as 3G) when HSPA is unavailable.

And you should be able to adjust the screen brightness by sliding you finger over the notification bar - like the S2 is able to do.

3G, HSDPA, HSUPA and HSPA+ are all UMTS technologies, just like GPRS and EDGE are all GSM technologies.

And that is in order of speed as well, in both cases. So yes, H+ is the fastest you can get on the S3, since it can't do LTE here.
 
I've set Llama to turn of data services when the screen is off. So whenever I want to check if I have new e-mail or social messages I just unlock my phone and wait a couple of seconds to get all the new messages. It should save on data and battery usage.

I don't think that will save data since all you're doing is delaying the data connection. The same amount of data will eventually come through (When you unlock your phone)

It will save battery though.

Nice. Why not set it to 2g instead. That way you still save battery (albeit not as much) but you get text messages and the like.

Not on the Samsung rom. But there used to be a setting for update notification under settings>about>software or something like that
