Not sure if I should start a new thread but decided to post here.

I would like to enable data usage for certain apps only. IE whatsapp, notifymyandroid, etc.

As data is quite pricey and I am usually on a wifi connection, I need to enable data usage but for certain apps only.

Root and install Droidwall.

You can select which apps and services are allowed to use 3G and/or Wi-Fi data

I helped a mate set this up on his phone on thursday night. Need to root your phone, then install LBE privacy guard (i think that's what it's called.) It allows you to revoke app's permissions and set which apps can use wi-fi and 3g I think. :)
 
Or just install Avast Mobile Security. The firewall allows you to select which apps can use data...
 
Or as far as I am aware you can limit background data usage to wifi only, per application, even on the SGS3 stock firmware, without any additional software, under settings. Will this not achieve what you are looking to achieve? Or play around with your sync settings so only some chosen applications sync without your intervention.
 
Hey guys, im running the stock ROM that came with my phone(4.0.4). If i root with CF-AUTO root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273) will i still be able to update OTA when jelly bean is released here? Also my battery stats show that the screen used 50% of the battery and cell standby 39%? Should cell standby be so high or do i have that cell standby issue?

My fiance is getting the Note 2 soon but she has a normal size sim with MTN.

Should we try cut it or is it best to get a new sim?

I managed to successfully cut my sim using a template I downloaded - if you are not keen to do that most cellphone stores have those sim punch things.

No need to get a new sim.
 
If you are considering to root your phone rather get Omega v31 Rom and flash your phone with it. You won't believe the difference between the stock rom and Omega.

Just root your phone first.

Updating is very simple if you run Omega.

So I can just take it to a shop to cut? Think I might try that, thanks.
 
If I install the UK jb update will I still get the jb update ota when it is released here?
 
Try the cut first. If you pick up random issue with 3g or wifi connectivity you might need a sim swap.
 
Easiest is just to go get a new sim. Cutting sometimes doesn't work and then you are completely buggered especially if its at night and you have to wait until the next day to get a new sim :D


My battery life on my S3 has been really good the last few days. Went back to the stock launcher, it seems Nova is a battery hog. I managed to get 1d 17 hours over the weekend and that was with regular / moderate usage. Not bad.

Problem is the sim is not in her name and she is not on good terms with her father, who lives about a thousand kays away.

I would rather try the sim cutter first to be honest.

Cool thanks, if I backup my apps with titanium backup then flash omega will I be able to restore all my apps ?
