Samsung Galaxy S8

Being new to the phone (and reading through 111 pages of this thread) I assumed that the SOT would be closer to 5-6 hours yet I am getting between 3-4 hours.
Therefore the question on whether it was possible to optimise the battery life even further.

5-6 sure, but then you aren't going to get 24 hours standby as well.... either or, not both.

On a side note...

I noticed that CellC is offering the Dex station @R29 per month on their Pinnacle packages for the S8/S8+.
When enquiring in-store at their head office, I was informed that they don't have any stock.

I went through to their head office in Waterfall Park, and apparently if I want to take the Dex when they finally get stock, I will have to cancel the upgrade I just did, and redo the upgrade process.

Why advertise something if they don't have any in stock?

Does that include the keyboard as well?

Hey great choice. S8 is awesome. I tested the S8 on all networks extensively with the main purpose of actually testing it's LTE capabilities on MTN and especially on Vodacom because here in Centurion and Midrand they are doing some awesome stuff with their network. CA and MIMO pushes download speeds to 150Mbps+ download on LTE-A

All that said Cellc for some reason the battery is draining waaaay faster than other networks. I think it might be a signal issue but with Cellc when the day is done so is my battery but with a MTN and Vodacom simcard in I can go a day and half.

I suggest you test it just to confirm before you try closing apps and optimizing the battery because IMO I think it's the Cellc network draining your battery no joke.

So I received the S8+ as a gift which I was delighted as my ageing S4 is already on its 3rd battery.

The big question guys and gals.

After 5min. with the device I already noticed there is no "shutter sound" mute under camera settings?
Bit of digging on the net they say its restricted to your country? I see screenshots of some folks and it sits underneath the "volume key function" in camera settings.

Does anyone know how to make it appear? I'm not looking for answers such as "Why don't you simply turn down system sounds?"

Mine is the SM-G955F model if that helps.

The other way will be rooting your phone, maybe installing a custom rom.

This will invalidate your warranty.

WRT the nature of your query, I would advise against rooting your phone.

I have to say, that I bought a OnePlus One on Carb, rooted and installed a Custom Rom.. Despite being an old device, I get extremely good battery life still, and flashed Nano gapps, so it was as clean as you can get ie no bloatware.

From what I read in this thread earlier think it was @fanie that said (apologies if not you Fanie) , the S8 has really awesome battery life, so I'm surprised that some are asking for tips to increase battery life.

If your battery is depleting more than you think it should, then I strongly suggest you factory reset, and install apps you use one at a time or a few and use it. Sometimes certain apps require silly permissions to run in the background, or the app itself is just a battery destroyer. You can then see which apps might be the cause of your battery drain.

Rooting your phone with a custom rom, won't really resolve that issue, unless the rom you install has that feature baked in. So it's pointless to root just for that feature. I would suggest maybe looking for a specific app in the play store, that could handle that for you. But is it really that much of an issue to turn off sound etc?

Finally had a chance to get my S8+ today and I have to say it's an awesome device. Never really liked Samsung cell phones because of the touchwizz interface but I must say it works really well on this device. I'm glad I took the S8+ and not the S8. Feels the same like my previous phone except a bit longer. One bit of concern though is that it's very slippery without a case on.:D

My best SOT so far. Stock Rom. Not using any Power Saving Mode.

What was it spent on?

Also that other guy was getting just over three hours, with 24 hours standby time and still over 30% left, kinda the same thing really.

I can't understand how you guys get this. Check my stats. I'm currently on 1 and half hour SOT AND getting less than 19 hours standby with 74% battery. What am I doing wrong.
