Lol, wait so Face Unlock is basically as useless as it was back in the Ice Cream Sandwich days?
I remember using it and showing some mates, one of whom has a face similary shaped to mine, turned out my Galaxy S2 thought I was him and would unlock.
I think Fingerprint And Iris Scanning are the two methods that will see greater wide spread use.
Fingerprint will probably continue being the most popular up until the Iris Scanner and Face Unlock can work in conjunction maybe.

no dude... not iris scanning, facial recognition, two different things, but both are supported... along with a fingerprint
SA will eventually catch up with things like AndroidPay and Paypal and I doubt either will allow such poor security features like facial recognition to replace fingerprints or number codes, I've got so used to using fingerprint with them (and on the front is the optimum for holding with thumb in the home button and tapping the reader) it would be a chore to have to slow down, turn the phone to locate the rear reader, finger on, turn back over and tap.
The makers putting the fingerprint reader on the bad aren't into ergonomics or don't consider use for things like tap and pay.

Let me tell you something about fingerprint reader placement... the Sony's got it. On the side! Best place, seriously. Pity it's such a kark phone. My V20 is on the back, and I fukking love it there. Better than the S7 on the front, and also the fact that I don't actually have to press the button to first turn on the screen makes it even better.
But yes, you are right, facial recognition won't be, or at least shouldn't be enough for securing payments. Let's see how the FNB app implements this, should give us a good indication, right?
Agreed - I have a Xiaomi Note 4 that has it at the back - I love it there. No buttons to push to wake it. Pick up the phone, and my index finger is naturally at the back. Barely need to touch the sensor and the phone wakes up and is ready to use.
However the S8 seems to be in an odd location being off to the side of the camera. Xiaomi is below the camera, I touch it without looking and without touching the camera lens

Using the finger print reader on the back is ideal, coming from a Huawei P9 Lite and using my friend's S7 and my now my iPhone.
The home button just feels awkward.

Have you done a tap and go with your phone yet? There are two ways to do it.
1. Log into the FNB app, either by fingerprint or password, then tap.
- this is fine, but not ideal, just because of the number of taps. This is also you only option if you have not secured your phone with a password, pin or fingerprint.
2. Unlock phone, tap.
- the better option, no need to open the app itself.

Using real AndroidPay there isn't even a need to unlock the phone, you simply touch the phone to the card reader and if your finger is on the home button it instantaneously reads the print and pays. It's a virtually instant process that is as quick as tapping a card.
Try it for yourself, pretend your coffee cup is a card reader and put your thumb where the S7 home button is and touch the cup, now try the same with a rear mounted print reader and see how less intuitive it is,

Have to disagree, the way I hold my phones a Fingerprint Scanner at the back just is not ideal especially when I have the phone on a dock/cradle or just flat on my desk, even when I'm and up around I would have to adjust my finger each time, it just doesn't feel as natural as a front Fingerprint Scanner.

the way you hold your phone.... you know you hold your phone in a specific way because of where the fingerprint reader on the S7 sits, right? when i moved from the s7 to the v20, i too had to go through a change... it's not the end of the world or such a big deal than what people tries to make it. Contrary to popular belief, the world does go on.

I hold my S7 the same way I always held these big screen slab phones, the Fingerprint Scanner didn't change the way I hold it because the Home button is in the same place as previous phones, that's why when I setup my fingerprints I ensure I set it up in such way that is reads my thumb in the position I usually put it in when I hit the Home button.

The way I hold my phone to do the fingerprint is the same way I hold it for texting, browsing etc... Here are some pics of how I hold my phone, excuse the quality, they were taken wth my iPad lol
The only time I change the way I hold my phone is when reaching for the notification bar or when I want to watch a video in landscape.

Nice, so where is your left index finger in that picture?
My V20 has a nice little feature that lives in my .... what do you call this area at the bottom that holds the home and back button? whatever... I added a button in there that brings down the shade, so no need to reach for it...! (bottom right of image below)
there's also a feature on the V20 when a slide either left or right across my "home bar" (yeh, that's what I'm calling it now) and it makes the screen smaller to that side, so you can easily reach for things...
