Has anyone noticed how SAOL upped their prices on their 384k uncapped offering?

I've been holding out a bit to see if it would actually come down, but instead it's been going up a by R100 p/m!

December 2009 : R499
January 2010: R599
February 2010: R699
March 2010: R799 !!!
April --> R899??

Where is it going to end? I was really hoping for a R399 offer soon :(

Wait a minute. You are right. I was just like. No dude its R699 but now its up again to R799. Wow I guess the current people @ R499 and R699 are costing them too much and need to up the price. Its quite pricey now compared to sainet's R499 including line rental. People complaining about high latency on sainet but I will take high latency any time compared to high price. Its all most double now.

I also signed up for the SAOL 384K uncapped all-in-one for R499 when it just came it. I cancelled it end of last month. I'd rather stick with a 5GB Afrihost account on a 384K or higher line, then use SOAL's uncapped. It sucks. It used to work well in the start, the first month. After that it's been all downhill.

If you think that a 384K line is a piece of sh|t on its own, then know this - SAOLs 384K uncapped all-in-one is an even bigger piece of sh|t. I use my 384K line mostly for torrent downloads, and some browsing. Browsing is fine, but torrents are shaped pretty much to death. On SAOL I get about 20KB/s on a well seeded torrent, with Afrihost, I get about 42KB/s - close to line max line speed, on the very same torrent, 1 minute later!

I've since moved on. I've ugpraded to 512K (coz 384K is k@k, and my exchange or street box doesn't yet support 4mbps) and I have the WebAfrica 30GB for R199 special, and I must say it kicks ass! So far it hasn't been as reliable as Afrihost, and torrents aren't as fast either, but it works pretty well.

Wish I could just get away from SAOL already. Unfortunately you have to give 1 calendar month's notice before you can cancel the service / migrate your line back to Telkom. And they take pretty long to respond to emails.. at least 2 days. With Afrihost I used to get a same day response. Also, their telephonic support/sales is mediocre at best. These Durbanites talk waaaaayy to slow on the phone. Also the hold time on the phone is about the same as Afrihost. If I didn't get the WebAfrica 30GB for R199 I would have stuck with Afrihost.

Afrihost FTW!
