Yeah but that, I assumed, was covered with the initial payout, which is the only component I usually ever get refunded on.

Well, lucky me, now selected for auditing, so just submitted the supporting documentation, will see what comes of it.

Called a Reduced Assessment, btw.

Also just got this reduced assessment after my initial one was already paid out on Monday, plus no additional documentation required as all supporting documents has already been submitted first time around.

It initially probably didn't carry forward, looks at last years notice of assessment to see what carried forward. They have now fixed their mistake I think.

On another note, the tax refund issue I've been talking about in regards with RAs, was my mothers.

My own RA contributions have now been carried forward correctly and have now been included in the calculator and the amount I owe SARS (CGT) is now down 25% (of course I will only submit much closer to the 24 November deadline ;)).

Probably due to their RA glitch I assume.
Must be. Either way, will doubly verify stuff with them. They actually have the original refund listed in the SOA as being finalized and take it into account with these calculation. Meh...

Funny, I just got a "Rejection of Revised ITR12" letter - thing is I never submitted one ................

Got an additional assessment now, suddenly I owe them 49 cents sigh, wonder if they'll keep updating it now.

I'm now being requested by SARS to submit a return for 2010 when I was working as a student. 7 years ago?! Where am I going to get an IRP5 for then??
Wait? Can they do that? You're only supposed to keep things for 5 years? How are you supposed to keep everything for eternity.

10:06PM: I received an sms stating a letter of communication has been issued. Logged in and this is what the letter says (keep in mind my return is all done and I have been paid out and my SARS balance is now R0 after the EFT refund):

Rejection of revised ITR12

Thank you for submitting a revised ITR12. Unfortunately your revised ITR12 cannot be processed, as your assessment has already been finalised.

If you are dissatisfied with the assessment, you may lodge an objection.

The notice of objection must be delivered within 30 business days of either:
- the first due date of the assessment or,
- where you have requested reasons for the assessments, either the date of the notice by the Commissioner that adequate reasons have
already been provided, or the date that such reasons were actually furnished by the Commissioner.

If you have already submitted an objection, then you may lodge a Notice of Appeal

The objection or appeal must be submitted on the prescribed Notice of Objection (NOO) or Notice of Appeal (NOA) form, which is available from any SARS taxpayer Service Centre, or on the SARS e-filing website or the SARS contact centre.

The completed NOO or NOA form together with the documents to support the grounds of objection or appeal can be submitted via post, or at any SARS Branch office or via e-filing.

Sincerely

For THE COMMISSIONER FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE

I see their front page says they did maintenance from 7pm-11pm last night: Due to ongoing maintenance eFilers may experience intermittent downtime on Friday, 14 July 2017 between 19:00 and 23:00. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Super wierd

Interesting one here....wife worked part time 2004 to 2014. Always paid below threshhold. Visited SARS twice to confirm no need to submit form. Was all OK in 2014 when she claimed UIF .
Suddenly yesterday she gets notice of a fine of R2500 being 10 years @ 250 for not submitting a form !!!

Yeah I don't understand. I've received refunds after 2010, so don't know how it can suddenly become an issue.
Also, I never earned enough to actually pay tax. Trying to get the IRP5 from the company, although I don't expect much. Like you said, it's more than 5 years ago.

That fine is calculated at R250 a month. Contact the contact centre to determine which return is actually outstanding.

Go the SARS branch and file there. They can access IRP5 certificates from 2010 on their system.

Super wierd

Same one that I got ............

But my money is in, better go spend it before they change their mind !

Also got a notification now for assessment and document submission. I have all my docs though so will finish upload Monday but the new assessment shows they owe me 5 times the amount of the original refund. I think there was a bugger up in the medical aid calcs.

Also got a new assessment after being paid out, now i owe 26 cents. Really. not really worth the effort to pay it.
