SARS E-Filing 2018

Submitted a return for the first time ever this year and the timeline was as follows:
14/08/2018: Submitted return and flagged for audit
15/08/2018: Submitted supporting documents
17/092018: Escalated case
21/09/2018: Received completion letter
02/10/2018: Finally received refund

Hi

Still no refund - 12 days after filing my returns. Still no correspondence from SARS and still not selected for verification or audit

SOA has no date reflecting electronic refund date ....

if we have rental income must the wife and i put it on our submissions. i submitted it previously (just me) but this time the wife did. but they told her now i must also put it on mine. bit of a bummer.

thought i could take advantage of her lower bracket (below that minimum amount) but it seems we both get assessed separately and both must pay.

Wonder how many still have to submit their returns before the deadline.

Going to be interesting if the server borks when thousands try to submit at the same time.

Only niggle I've had was that it does not save everything completely, it loses your medical information when saving it and re-opening it later.

Splitting the rental amount?

Meant for the tax return (now).
If you both include full amount you essentially paying double tax.

She included the whole amount yes. That’s why I don’t want to put it in mine. Why would they say I must include as well when it means double tax as you say.

If you are married in community of property, and have selected that option on your return, then SARS will automatically split the amount 50/50. That is why you must put the full amount on both.

so the amount i just paid was just for 50% of the amount?

Difficult to say without knowing the full details of your return. If you do not think it is correct, or that SARS has not accounted for the 50 percent split, then you should lodge a dispute.

Does your return state that you are married "in community of property"?

I’m sure I selected that option yes.

Just called SARS call centre and was told that I need to come in to the nearest branch to verify my banking details with supporting docs yet the SOA clearly states not selected for audit or verification

Wonder how long the wait is going to be after verification takes place and when will the refund be paid out....
