SARS E-Filing 2019/20

If you pay medical aid out of your own pocket, are you allowed to claim it back and if so, how? I don't see anything on the Sars site that allows this. The medical aid section is prepopulated with my info. It seems I am getting a few bob back for my RA's but a few more for medical aid wouldn't hurt. If it isn't possible, then so be it.
Did you specify that you had medical expenses which are not on your tax certificate when you completed the form wizard? :)

Anyone selected for an audit? First time that I wasn't. :)

I'll be signing up for sars for the first time. So I get paid below threshold I think, but I pay my own medical aid/gap etc. etc.

Can I claim anything back, or is it only if the employer offers some contributions on it.

I'm doing consulting work for now so I send in invoices, so currently employer doesn't deduct anything etc. since the place is tiny, but is there anything I should be mindful of.

Make sure you are not regarded as a Provisional Taxpayer. ;)

Yoi should be able to deduct medical expenses.

For the first time in 11 years, they audited me. I had cited R450 out of pocket medical expenses.

After submitting the invoices last night, they were accepted within an hour and the verification passed - they will however not be considering the expenses; payment will be the same as originally assessed which I am fine with (basically audit case took 2 hours).

Hoping for payment tomorrow/Monday.

Ouch! Maybe you'll be lucky next year. :)
Nah, disability claims, major deduction normally so requires proof but you would think they would look at the same records on file. The DD is valid for 10 years but must upload every year.

Wow! That was quick. Hopefully SARS can keep it up going forward. :)

Government and red tape go hand in hand. :D

You can definitely claim for medical aid, but the way SARS is now it all happens automatically. I think you get up to R650/month/person for med aid, so it's a tidy little sum at the end.

Is there anyone one who got the error 4478-directive no invalid
Yes. Asked employer to investigate on their side because my own IRP5 had a directive nr in the one section. SARS didnt want to help me until September....

Thanks.
Well first I need to figure out why I didn't get a tax number even after uploading docs. But that will be on Monday.

Hi Guys, what does this mean "4482 - IRP5 L/S AMOUNT MISSING". Refuses to show my calculations but I have no clue what I am doing wrong?
Mine did the same. It is for a lump sum payout you perhaps received from pension / provident fund..I received 2 payouts but yet I have no idea where to complete this on my return.

Did you take a cash lump sum from the Fund or was the money transferred to another Fund. In both cases you should have received an IRP5 from the administrator of the Fund showing the amounts and relevant codes.

Both should be pre-populated in the return. Most likely you are getting that error because the information has not been reconciled by SARS (the reconciliation works differently depending on if it was a cash payout or a transfer).

It seems a bit add that SARS would issue an auto assessment, or are you trying to file early, which might explain the error.
