SARS E-Filing 2019/20

Hmm, seeing that retirement lumpsum withdrawal post above ... SARS proposal out today for retirement lumpsums and emigration as from 1 Mar 2021 .. Now you need to be 3 years not a SA tax resident before you can get your hands on the money!

I am in exactly the same situation. SARS says they can't help cause it is only suppose to be open in September and Momentum FundsAtWork (my previous employer pension fund) are just saying we have issued you the tax certificate it's your problem now. Tried explaining to the call center agent that the eFiling site clearly states that this needs to be rectified by the fund administrator cause it is 3rd party information that was submitted and the agent asked me how do they submit information to SARS cause it is my tax they can't get involved with that :crying:.

Any way hope yours is not with Momentum and you have better luck resolving this. Please let me know how you resolve it if you do.
You should still be able to file the return with that error ? Normally it is just the calculation that does not work.

Hey guys

I logged my return on the app, all my my income and deductions was loaded correctly, I just updated my address.

I clicked submit and it issued me it34a shortly after with the amount sars will give me .

Is that it?

Yes, they made it real easy to file. :)

Get an "statement of account" which will tell you when you will get your refund ! :)

I have a question regarding medical expenses not shown on any medical scheme certificate.

Every year I have expenses not covered by medical aid. I always add them in and get a fair chunk back.
However, those expenses are shared equally between myself and my wife during the year. So only fair to split the returned amount equally. For example, if she's paying for all her optometrist bills, but we have other bills shared for the kid, then it's only fair to give the full returned amount for the optometrist and 50/50 the remainder.

Thing is, how do you calculate how much of the refund is due to those medical expenses alone?
What is the percent of the expenses returned?

For example, say the auto assessment says R5K refund. After adding the medical expenses of say R20,000, the assessment hops up to say R15,000 refund? (I'm using multiple of 5 for reference. If I get dough like that back I ain't telling no one :D I'm just trying to figure out the calculation). Is it literally R10,000 refund due to just those medical expenses? So effectively they refund 50% or more of the expenses?

EDIT: I should've done the SARS calculation before and after adding in the expenses. Is there another calculator out there that can take the same information as provided on the ITR12?

Search for the line "Additional Medical Expenses Tax Credits" in the Notes section of your ITA34. The amount for additional expenses credited is in the right-hand column, and the calculation is at the bottom.

Also not able to edit the tfsa fields.
How do we fix this ?

I'm with EE

I'm with Allan Gray. I emailed them, their response:

"Discrepancies with certain IT3(s), IT3(b) and RA information

Some clients have received SMSes indicating a discrepancy with the third-party data submitted to SARS. It appears that SARS is not displaying certain information on tax returns which should have been pre-populated. This issue has been escalated to SARS. We have been notified of the following amounts not displaying:

• IT3(s): contributions and withdrawals

• IT3(b): gross foreign interest

• RA contributions

We will inform you once the issue has been resolved."

I did my girlfriend's tax last friday. I selected the option that interest was earned. The inputs wasnt readonly on hers.

I still need to do my tax (will keep you posted when I do mine)

Thanks SARS for the refund this year (for the GF). 2020 checked!!
