SARS E-Filing 2019/20

Anyone know what the following code means: 4478 - IRP5 Tax Directive Invalid No? This comes up when i try do the calculation.

Filed on Tuesday, got SMS this morning with the money in my account. Happiness :)

Bah.

URN COULD NOT BE ISSUED
Your auto assessment could not be issued at this time. Please try again later.

Urgh....

So finally found some time to go through everything and verified the calculation.

Can't submit my return though.

According to SARS my bank account information is invalid. I haven't changed anything in relation to banking in 20+ years and the details have always been the same with SARS. Updating the banking details now supposedly requires verification.

Happened to my wife's return. There was a 0 missing in her account nr AND they changed the account from cheque to savings

So quick question for those that have submitted - did any of you have prepopulated interest earned from investments, but it was incorrect?
I went it today and they've populated those fields for the first time, but the amounts are slightly different from what I see. It's nothing big, we're talking a few rands but wanted to check, did you guys change their figures if they were different, or leave as is?

So far mighty impressed, I've hardly had to input anything. Was worried as I changed banks, they have the new bank details already.

I had the same problem yesterday.I edited my banking details and put the same banking details and filed successfully. My refund is due tomorrow.

I also had discrepancies in my prepopulated interest. They had my Capitec interest, but nothing prepopulated from FNB, so I had to manually enter it.

Refund arrived in my bank account this morning!

If you're under the interest exemption threshold I wouldn't worry about a couple of rand difference

Just got an auto assessment SMS. Refund is R2k whereas it is usually R20k.

Could this be SARS's tactic? under assess and hope people just accept the amount and they end up scoring by paying out less this year?

Absolutely. And the opposite is true as well, i.e. they give you an auto-assessment that claims you owe them less than you really do, and you accept the assessment, and then later they hit you with understatement penalties and interest when they realise their mistake.

This is what so worrying about these auto-assessments. There is no way SARS could possibly know everything about your tax affairs without some form of self-declaration. There will always be income or deductions that SARS doesn't know about, and these auto-assessments could lull people who have no tax knowledge into accepting auto-assessments that could come back to bite them later on. Of course SARS will always claim that it's the taxpayers responsibility to check everything.

I just logged in, but don't see anything for 2020. No return or anything. Should I "request a return for 2020"?
