SARS has my IRP5 data all prepopulated, they're the ones who generate the IRP5 in the first case

SARS doesn't generate the IRP5. They obtain that information from your employer.

You don't need to wait until the first, you can do it anytime you feel like. The process of changing bank account details it completely seperate to filing season, it just happens to be triggered by filing (in your case)

Thanks for this. Is the proof of address important though? My wife's return is to be paid and her address was changed on e-filing and no issues.
