SARS E-Filing 2020/21

Car allowance or company car?
Never been selected for verification with Company Car. I think if the actual business mileage is about 25% of total claims they think it's ok. Lets see what happens this year.

Last year was also weird for many people, being locked down with not much opportunity for travel

I've been selected for verification for the last 6 years.
Maybe it's because they always owe me about 30K+ :cautious:

Meh, got selected for audit/verification, but I can't see a spot yet to upload documentation.
Mines as well. I selected home office deduction. Upload only supported 20 documents and now i am waiting

Which documents they asked for ?
- Employment contract or letter from Employer confirming the use of home office (stating why the taxpayer is required to perform work from home as well as whether an office is provided at the employer's premises).
- Schedule of the Home office expenses incurred for the tax period- Square meters of home office area as well as the total home area square meters and (including) outbuildings.
- Provide at least 1 utility bill that indicates the physical address of the home in the event a physical inspection is deemed necessary.
- Utility bills in the name of the Taxpayer/Business showing the physical address/Affidavit if property is not owned by the taxpayer in the event that a physical inspection is deemed necessary

Home office claims comes with additional CGT when you sell your house, thus I want to avoid that. Now I'm wondering if they will allow other direct costs as deductible e.g internet.

You can deduct any cost that is not capital, so Internet will be deductible, interest on home loan as well plus most other expenses (all pro rata based on sqm)

Yes I understand, but I was hoping to keep the whole sqm and home office Calc out of it to avoid future CGT, and just claim maybe 70 percent of internet cost.
My study is only around 9sqm out of 400, but 2 percent of the internet bill is not in line with actual WFH use.

Did they require invoice/proof of receipt for items you bought for your home office?

Just submitted mine, 1st time I'm doing it "early" so to speak. I logged in yesterday just to check on things, saw that I was auto-assessed. Clicked on the View button to see what they had done, but that just ended up generating my return as it always has. Checked everything was in and correct, did a calculation, waited overnight to decide if I should file early, filed a few mins ago. Not selected for audit or verification and have a refund due to me again. Go SARS!
Please give us the steps to do for us noobs.. I normally wait until the 1st July and let the call centre guide me where to click lol..

When did you submit?
My refund date is the 1st :p
on saturday night ,

request a SOA , and see if the amount that showed as a refund, still shows , if it shows a 0 , it means its most likely released for payment

Does a garage count as an outbuilding?
